When we hear the words "Eat Bulaga," what would enter your mind immediately? I know, I know, for us Pinoys, it has been a common thought for us that when we use those words, it would mean like we're playing with the babies, it's kinda "surprising" them when we cover our eyes while saying "it" (from children's game called 'hide and seek'),with our hands then we'd suddenly uncover them while saying "bulaga," (peek-a-boo) and that supposed to surprise the babies and make them laugh.
Joey de Leon, one of the members of the famous comedy trio, Tito, Vic and Joey, has thought of the idea and title of the program, it, being a noontime show, instead of the word "it," he thought of changing it into "eat" and "bulaga" which means surprise. So their main goal is to surprise the viewers and audience during lunch time with their show. Come July 30, 1979, "Eat Bulaga" was finally born and it aired over RPN Channel 9 under Production Specialists, Inc. owned by Romy Jalosjos which then later transferred under Tony Tuviera's TAPE, Inc. until present. Still going back the time, "Eat Bulaga's very first hosts aside from Tito, Vic & Joey (TVJ), were Chiqui Hollman-Yulo and Richie d' Horsie, then the process continues.
Today, "Eat Bulaga" hosts include TVJ (of course), Jimmy Santos, Anjo Yllana, Pauleen Luna, Ruby Rodriguez, Allan K, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, Paolo Ballesteros, Keempee de Leon, Pia Guanio, Michael V, Julia Clarete, Ryan Agoncillo, Sam Y.G., Ryzza Mae Dizon and Marianne Rivera. The 36 year old noontime variety show airs daily until Saturday over GMA Network.
To most of us, the show, "Eat Bulaga" has been like a part of our daily noontime meal be it in our own household, public buses, office and school cafeterias or basically, almost everywhere and everyday as in 24/7, since they now also have its own mobile app called Eat Bulaga Mobile! See? They're really leveling up to what's "in" and trending today.
Time flies really, really fast, "Eat Bulaga" is considered to be the longest running noontime variety show in Philippine television. The openness for change and evolution for the program was a great plus for the whole show and everyone, and one of the main reasons that people keep patronizing and watching them is that they still managed to come up every year with programs like the "Eat Bulaga" Lenten Special wherein their regular hosts are involved in acting, totally different from their hosting jobs.
Just recently, we were privileged to be part of a special "Eat Bulaga Lenten Special" Bloggers Night held at Cerchio in Sct. Limbaga in Quezon City. I was so happy and in awe upon seeing "Eat Bulaga" hosts Pauleen Luna, Wally Bayola, cutee Ryzza Mae Dizon, Ryan Agoncillo, Anjo Yllana and Pia Guanio. I've seen them several times before everytime I watch "Eat Bulaga" live in their studio in Broadway Centrum in Aurora blvd., Quezon City. My recent experience with them was a lot more fun and unforgettable. We all got the chance to watch two of the #EBLenten specials entitled "Pinagpalang Ama" and "Lukso ng Dugo."

"Pinagpalang Ama," stars Joey de Leon (father), his three sons in the story were played by Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola and Ryan Agoncillo with special guests Pilita Corrales and John Spainhour. It's a story of a father played by Joey, who raised his three sons all by himself, Jose and Wally were two typical homosexuals while Ryan is the youngest who still studies and been away from his family. Ms. Pilita plays their grandmother who lives with them. This is a story about family, about acceptance, love, truth and honesty. During times of trouble, hardships and downfall, who else could we ever turn to but our family. It is them who can really us unconditional love. The story clearly tells us that, as a family, we must remain united and intact most especially during life's challenges.
For me, Ryan Agoncillo is a big revelation here. This is the first time that we're gonna see him in a very challenging role, it's a bit in some ways but the plot is much deeper. Hmmm... do I smell an acting award? :)) The whole show was even made lighter and funnier by the antics of Jose and Wally, and that's no question about it since they are really a perfect tandem when it comes to comedy. Joey de Leon is undoubtedly perfect for his role, and I was moved by his lines and acting that you'll see towards the end of the show. "Pinagpalang Ama" will be aired on Holy Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 12 noon over GMA Network directed by direk Joyce Bernal.

The second #EBLenten special that we were able to watch in advanced was "Lukso ng Dugo" which stars Pia Guanio, Ryzza Mae Dizon, Julia Clarete and Aiza Seguerra with guest Mr. Ricky Davao. This story has a special place in my heart since it was entirely shot in Sta. Ana, Manila where I presently live. "Lukso ng Dugo" is a story of Alex and Micah, played by Aiza and Ryzza respectively; two sisters who were just a victim of circumstances. They were driven apart because they have to and for Alex, sacrifice is the only answer on her part to make her sister safe and protected all for the name of love for family.
Ryzza was so proud of their show "Lukso ng Dugo." She was having a good time watching it as you can see, she's seated on the carpeted floor.
Aiza here still proves that she's a very effective dramatic actress while Ryzza is definitely a child star and she knows how to touch your heart. Pia is getting better in acting every time I watch her while Julia is perfect for her role as the "snob" and hard-hearted aunt of Alex and Micah. This will be aired on Holy Monday, March 30, 2015 over GMA Network under the helm of Ms. Gina Alajar.

Please watch out for other #EBLenten specials: "Biro ng Kapalaran," on March 30 starring Keempee de Leon, Jimmy Santos, Paolo Ballesteros and Nova Villa ; and on March 31, Tuesday, "Pangako ng Pag-ibig," starring Pauleen Luna, Anjo Yllana, Rocco Nacino and Jaclyn Jose ; On April 1 "Aruga ng Puso" stars Marianne Rivera, Ruby Rodriguez, Bianca Umali and Irma Adlawan and after that, there's "Sukli ng Pagmamahal," which stars Vic Sotto, Tito Sotto, Allan K. and Ina Raymundo.
Definitely "Eat Bulaga" continues to spread the real meaning of it's famous line from their show's theme song, "Isang libo't- isang tuwa, buong bansa... Eat Bulaga!'
