The Midea difference in choosing a washing machine

Washing machines have been very helpful in making life at home easier than having to do laundry by hand. It allowed most people to do more household work and other things within the day, unlike before when “laundry day” literally means doing laundry the whole day. Though washing machines have really been a big help, there is still uneasiness with some of things related to it, such as the amount of electricity and water it consumes, the confusion sometimes in using it, and the damage it does to some fabrics when it gets tangled during the wash.

Fortunately, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of home appliances— Midea, understands these difficulties that may arise during laundry day. That is why they come up with innovative products that have distinct features that respond to some of the worries most people have when using a washing machine.

Midea’s Semi-Automatic Twin Tub washing machines cleans the clothes thoroughly without having the clothes entangled with each other with its Dual Cleaning Motion technology. Its Spin Air Dry on the other hand, dries clothes faster and more efficiently. These technologies help Midea Twin Tub consume lesser electricity down to just one peso (Php 1) per wash load as tested by the Meralco Powerlab— perfect for the budget conscious households. The Twin Tub is also made with high-grade durable material called ABS Plastic with double walling for more protection, making it take heavy loads for a very long time.

Fully Automatic top load washing machines have the One Touch Wash feature which allows people to easily use the washing machine with just a push of a button. It also has smart sensors that set the right amount of water and the right amount of time in washing, based on the laundry. This feature avoids the confusion in getting the right setting for every wash load, and most of all it saves 37% on water consumption. The high-speed motor used in these washing machines could wash, rinse, and dry for as fast as 19 minutes without consuming too much electricity. A full wash load in the tub running a complete wash, rinse, and dry cycle costs no more than one peso (Php 1) in electricity consumption.

The Water Magic Cube, brought by its innovative design, allows the water in the tub to flow without tangling the clothes that may cause some damages to the fabric. This feature also allows it to clean 27% better than other washing machines and reduce tangles up to 84%. All of these features also save time for busy mommies who are active and are always on the go. This also allows more time for all those extra wash loads and most especially, more time for the family.

Midea’s Front Load Washer, on the other hand, are for the meticulous.  A complete wash, rinse, and dry cycle using the Daily Wear setting takes 82 minutes to complete. It may sound a very long time, but it actually consumes an equivalent of just two pesos (Php 2) worth of electricity. The same setting uses 43 liters of water which is only equivalent to just one peso (Php 1), giving the family 70% savings on their monthly water bill. At the same time, its Clothes Care System gives cleaner clothes with no tangles and no damage.

While Midea washing machines do great in saving water, electricity, and time for the whole family, it still does a great job in getting off dirt and stains from the clothes. Living home life is happier with more time spent with family, secured by the peace of mind brought by the help of technology, and balanced by the harmony brought by innovation. This is the difference Midea aims for, to be every family’s choice of home appliance.

Herbalife’s Nutrition At Work Survey reveals Majority of Philippines’ Workforce Lead Largely Sedentary Lifestyles, Putting them at Risk of Obesity

Fifth Herbalife Asia-Pacific Wellness Tour seeks to address health issues associated with sedentary lifestyles, and deepen practical understanding on the benefits of a healthy, active life

PHILIPPINES, April 25, 2016 – Herbalife, a global nutrition company, has released the findings of the new Nutrition At Work Survey, which revealed that the majority of Philippines’ workforce leads largely sedentary lifestyles, putting them at risk of obesity. The Survey1, which was designed to understand the lifestyle habits and attitudes of Asia Pacific’s modern workforce, was conducted in March with 5,500 full-time workers in 11 Asia-Pacific markets, including 500 workers from the Philippines.

According to the survey findings, almost nine out of 10 (85%) workers in the Philippines spend at least six hours a day sitting at their desk, with 52% of its workforce eating lunch at their work desk two to five times per week. The survey also revealed that majority of Philippines’ workforce (86%) exercise less than three times per week, with five out of 10 getting less than 30 minutes of physical activity a day at their workplace. This suggests a significantly worrying trend locally, on the back of rising obesity rates recorded in recent years.

Nevertheless, the risk of obesity could be averted if workers in the Philippines decide to take control over their own nutritional intake and exercise regimen. Close to eight out of 10 workers (75%) affirmed that they strive to live a healthy, active life, however, the majority of them noted that they find it difficult to stay active during workdays.

“With a majority of Philippines’ workforce leading largely sedentary lifestyles, our mission as a global nutrition company is to help people in the Philippines take practical steps towards leading healthy, active lives. By inculcating positive nutrition and active lifestyle habits to people in the Philippines, we hope that this will, over time, help reduce obesity risks and lead to positive improvements to the well-being of our people,” said Mr. Rosalio Valenzuela, General Manager of Herbalife Philippines.

Aimed at addressing health issues associated with sedentary lifestyles, and deepening practical understanding on the benefits of healthy, active lifestyles, Herbalife launched its fifth Asia Pacific Wellness Tour 2016, held in the months of April and May. The latest edition of the Wellness Tour builds upon the successes of the past four tours that welcomed more than 80,000 participants across the region, and features a host of medical symposiums, talks and workshops led by seven experts from Herbalife’s Nutrition Advisory Board (NAB), covering 26 cities across Australia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Gary Small, M.D. has recently visited the country and shared his expert views on digital dementia and brain aging at the “A Smart Way to Healthy Aging: A Talk by Gary Small, M.D.” event. Dr. Small, a specialist in brain health and aging, has authored over 500 scientific works and received numerous awards and honors, including the "Senior Investigator Award" from the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry.

During the talk Dr. Small addressed health and nutrition related issues associated with sedentary lifestyles and share practical tips on how today’s workforce can live healthier lives by making simple changes to their daily lifestyles. Health and medical professionals, academics, as well as the general public have also engaged in lively dialogues with Dr. Small at the event, and had the chance to network with like-minded professionals through the Herbalife Asia-Pacific Wellness Tour platform.

Rounding up the team of Herbalife NAB experts who have participated in the Asia-Pacific Wellness Tour are:
Dr. David Heber, chairman of the Herbalife Nutrition Institute and Nutrition Advisory Board. A leading expert in the field of nutrition, named as one of “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” by Thomson Reuters in 2014 and repeatedly included in “The Best Doctors in America”.

Dr. Chin-Kun Wang, an expert in metabolism and nutrition, with a focus on the clinical evaluation of nutritional supplements, nutraceuticals, functional foods and herbs. He was awarded the National Award of Biomedicine in Taiwan in 2008 for his contribution to medical education.
Dr. Julian Alvarez Garcia, a specialist in sports medicine and sports physiology who has advised professional teams, national teams and individual athletes on a range of disciplines including weightlifting, triathlons, mountain biking, football and basketball.

Dr. Darren Burgess, an expert in sports science and nutrition who has authored papers in multiple peer review journals. He is also the current Head of High Performance at Port Adelaide Football (AFL) Club, and the former Head of Fitness and Conditioning at Liverpool Football Club.
Dr. Nataniel Viuniski, an expert in pediatrics and nutrition who has authored “Childhood Obesity – A Practical Guide”. He is also currently an advisor to Brazil's Health and Education Ministry for Childhood Obesity.

Dr. Francis Gregory Samonte, one of the Philippines’ premier experts in pediatric neurology, and the first Filipino appointed to the NAB. He was a recipient of the Chairman’s Achievement Award from the University of Louisville, Kentucky’s Department of Pediatrics.

The NAB experts were also joined by Dr. Luigi Gratton, Herbalife’s vice president of nutrition education and development, who has written numerous articles on nutrition and obesity, and has appeared on television speaking on nutrition, anti-aging medicine, sports nutrition and other medical topics.

“With each new edition of the Wellness Tour, we are seeing an increasing number of people gain practical knowledge to lead better lives. We hope that that this year’s Tour will further empower people to take charge of their nutritional intake and exercise regimen, so that they can enjoy the full benefits of a healthy, active life,” Mr. Valenzuela concluded.

1Herbalife’s Nutrition At Work Survey was conducted in March 2016, with 5,500 respondents aged 18 and above, from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

MUNI Market brings mindful living to Nuvali on May 21

May 20, 2016

Toni B performing at the last MUNI Market

On its 5th year, MUNI Market continues to spread its message of “mindful living” to folks living in the metropolis and beyond through a festive market affair at the Solenad Activity Park, Solenad 3, Nuvali, Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Cause-driven entrepreneurs will be showcasing their healthy, local, and eco-friendly fares including food, as well as home and fashion items, alongside educational workshops, demos, and live musical performances.

Yadu backpacks are carefully stitched together with upcycled fabric making for truly one-of-a-kind pieces

Risque designs creates footwear incorporating handwoven Hablon textiles from Iloilo and wooden carvings from Paete

“Muni” is derived from the word “muni-muni” which in Filipino means to think, ponder, muse, or reflect. Through the MUNI Market, the Muni community of like-minded merchants eager to share their knowledge of “mindful lifestyle options” hopes to inspire people to become aware of their impact as consumers and the simple ways one can contribute to a more sustainable future.

Among the conscious, purpose-driven merchants at MUNI Market include Yadu which produces high-quality bags and backpacks made with upcycled fabric. Risque Designs makes colorful footwear using handwoven Hablon textiles from Iloilo and accessorizes them with Paete wooden icons. Gouache’s reusable lunch bags tote as well as complement wholesome meals. Jertie’s Kitchen specializes in vegan, gluten-free pastries and dishes.

Down to Earth advocates for sustainable, organic farming with their produced and grass-fed, pasture-raised meats

The MUNI Market will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. In between shopping, kids can attend coloring and storytelling activities, food enthusiasts can watch food demos, and yogis can join a yoga class. While guests mill about the day-long bazaar, musicians such as Toni B, Gentle Universe, Paola Mauricio, and Mellow Submarine will provide live entertainment for a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

“MUNI Market’s ideals are in sync with Nuvali’s sustainability philosophy. We are one with the MUNI community in helping consumers make more informed lifestyle decisions and providing avenues for people to effectively make changes for the good of the environment and society,” said Nuvali Marketing Manager Jennifer Chua.

Within Nuvali’s lush 2,290-hectare mixed-use development are scenic bike trails, hiking paths, and a wildlife and bird sanctuary, in line with its vision as a self-supporting eco-city. Nuvali recently launched Camp N, its premier outdooradventure and team-building facility that serves as an incubation for self-discovery through obstacles and challenges testing one’s physical limits, mental abilities, and even character and values. Right beside Camp N is Greens & Patches which serves as a tree nursery, a demo organic farm, as well as an art and meditation center for those seeking an introspective approach in self-development. Guided tours and programs will soon be offered here so guests can learn about nature’s processes and gifts.

To get to Nuvali, one can take any of the five South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) exits at Mamplasan, Sta. Rosa, Eton-Greenfield, Silangan, and Canlubang. Nuvali is also easily accessible via public vehicles from major centers like Makati, Bonifacio Global City, and Balibago.

THE PHILIPPINE RED CROSS CONTINUES TO REBUILD THREE YEARS LATER

It’s been several difficult years since Nov. 8, 2013, when the Philippines braved the strongest storm ever recorded, and took the brunt of Typhoon Haiyan, the deadliest Philippine typhoon to date.
As the typhoon swept through Samar, Leyte, Cebu, Capiz, Negros and Northern Iloilo, it left in its wake 6,300 dead, and cities such as Tacloban in a brittle heap. According to reports, an estimated 16 million people were affected by Typhoon Haiyan, 4.1 million people were displaced, and 1.1 million houses were damaged after the devastation.
Rebuilding the cities, especially Tacloban, and helping the communities bounce back from such devastation was a challenge. It was a difficult task, but not an impossible one for the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).

“The Philippine Red Cross understands that action without direction is nothing. We, the PRC, pride ourselves in being there at times when people need us most, sharing hope when there doesn’t seem to be any, and providing light when others cannot see the way,” shared PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dick Gordon. “As long as PRC live, we will continue to serve, protect and be in service to the Filipino people.”

Approaching Haiyan’s third anniversary, the PRC proudly shares its progress.

Fun Summer Experience with Streamline Sports Instruction, Inc.

These lovable and very jolly kids (Bryce, Caleb and IC) were really taking their grand time under the sun with Coach Mike Advincula of Streamline Sports Instruction, Inc.

It was one very sunny summer morning. My nephew Bryce, grandson and grandaughter (both from my niece) Caleb and Sofia respectively, were really that excited as we travel going to The City Club located in Alphaland in Makati City.

As soon as we got there, the kids got even more active when they saw the pool area! And they were ready to jump in! Their laughters, the sound of their excitement and their giggles were so priceless, believe me. It seemed to me that there's something "magical" everytime the kids see swimming pools, even if it is inflatable (like the one we have back home) or the real one!

Check these out!

The hyperactive boys Bryce and Caleb

My little model Sofia standing in front of one of the sponsors, Belo Essentials SunExpert

Ooops! Babies, those are Vita Coco's product display, better be careful!

Enough of play time kids, it's swimming lessons with the coaches from Streamline Sports Insltruction, Inc. But first, you must apply on some Belo sunscreen for kids like this one.

The very kid-friendly Belo Essentials SunExpert

It's swimming time!!!

Awww! Look at them, aren't they so behave and adorable?!

One good thing about #StreamlineSportsInstruction was that, they started their lesson with a kiddie song, so that the kiddos could feel more relaxed, comfy and at ease with them. And it seemed very effective huh, kudos to the very patient and good-looking coaches : Mike, Alvin and Dom. Clap clap clap! They were singing nursery rhymes at the start, in the middle and towards the end of the session. The actual running time for this is around 30 mins. The Infants and Toddlers covers the ages 1-4.

Here's a video of them singing...

My most fave happy pic of my baby Bryce! He's so undeniably enjoying! Soooo cute! Thanks coach Dom for being so kind and patient to him.

To coaches Mike, Dom and Alvin, thumbs up to you guys for making good and wonderful memories with our first-timers. They really enjoyed the whole session.

After that very exciting swimming lesson, don't you think they deserve a nice and refereshing drink like Vita Coco? Oh yes, definitely!

Kids love Vita Coco too!!!

Aside from the infants and toddlers program, #StreamlineSportsInstruction has also programs for the:

Teens session

Adult session

Cooling down this summer has never been this fun.

Super thanks to the other sponsors:

Jump in!

The summer heat in the metro can get unbearable sometimes and all you want to do is jump into the closest pool to just cool down. So why not make it a regular thing? You’ll be amazed at the benefits you get from taking that plunge. But don’t let the heat be the only reason for you to start those regular laps in your pool. Here’s a few more to really give you that extra motivation to get into swimming.

Do it for your health

As a swimmer, you gain muscle strength throughout the entire body since you utilize more muscle groups as you move through the water and helps with overall flexibility.

It’s not just for your physical health
The health benefits of swimming don’t just end with the physical benefits. A research by Mindlab International reported that taking a regular dip at your local pool could make you feel happier. More studies suggest it also helps with stress relief and self-esteem.

It could make you smarter

According to a Journal of Physiology study, blood flow to the brain increased by up to 14% when men submerged themselves in water up to their heart. Though this could mean more brain activity for you, don’t get your hopes too high. The real magic is with the kids! In an Australian research, it showed that kids who took swimming lessons were able to master language development, fine motor skills, confidence, and physical development sooner than those who didn’t. Don’t you just wish you took swimming lessons as a kid?

Live longer

Yes, all forms of exercise can produce greater health and longevity, several studies point to swimming as the winner. A study done by the University of South Carolina in a span of 32 years involving 40,547 men, aged 20 to 90, showed that swimmers had a 50% lower death rate than runners, walkers, or men who didn’t exercise.

Philippine summer

While there is a ton of other ways you can stay fit this summer, you might want to stay cool while doing so. Swimming, my dear friends, is the answer. Also, wouldn’t summers by our beautiful beaches be more enjoyable if you could swim as much as you wanted?

Anyone can do it

Whether you’re an athlete, a pregnant mom, or just someone who wants to start a regular exercise, swimming is a great workout as it helps enhance your cardiovascular fitness with very minimal risk of injury.

This summer, why not enroll in a swimming school? Like all exercises, it’s always more effective when we approach learning under the supervision of professionals who use a technically sound and enjoyable form of instruction. With a combined local and international teaching experience of over 40 years, swimming with Streamline Sports Instruction will definitely be an experience you and your kids will enjoy.

“Swimming is for everyone. You can learn at any age and still be good at it, with the right teaching approach,” shares Noy Basa, Co-Founder and Head Coach of Streamline Sports Instruction. “We believe in the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle through sports and learning how to swim is a step towards that direction,” ends Basa.

Go on, grab your goggles, and take a lap with us!

For more information, you can check out the Streamline Sports Instruction Facebook page.
