"DAYAW:" A Passion Project turned into a Legacy... now on its 11th season on ANC

Deputy Speaker and Congresswoman of Antique Loren Legarda, the woman behind the award-winning documentary "Dayaw." 




The mission to promote Filipino indigenous culture and heritage goes on for the award-winning documentary series “Dayaw” with the launch of its eleventh season on ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel, this August.

A production of ANC and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), “Dayaw” has been documenting the lifeways, traditions, practices, and culture of the different Indigenous Peoples groups since 2015.

Still leading the way for “Dayaw” on its eleventh season is its host, three-term Senator, and now House Deputy Speaker and Antique Congresswoman, Loren Legarda, who conceptualized the program.



“It has always been Dayaw’s mission to document as many aspects of Filipino culture and knowledge systems as possible. We can only save these from extinction by continuing to instill their importance in the younger generation, and let them practise and learn these treasures. With the theme “Kakaibang Sigla,” Dayaw Season 11 allows us to look at the different ways in which our energy, competitiveness and sportsmanship are mainstreamed in the traditional societies and knowledge systems,” Loren said.



After featuring traditional Filipino children’s games such as patintero, sipa, and luksong tinik in the first episode, followed by a two-part special on the Punnuk, a show of physical strength that ends the Ifugao’s harvest season, “Dayaw” will then focus on Filipino martial arts such as arnis, silat, and eskrima in its next two episodes, starting on Thursday (August 26), 6pm on ANC and the ANC Facebook.



The season will wrap up on September 3 with “Sayawang Pinoy,” an episode highlighting how grace and fluidity of movements of Filipinos express our energy, discipline and joy as a people.

Despite the pandemic, “Dayaw” has been able to launch new seasons, with Season 12 already in the works. Titled “KAKA-IBANG SIGLA: Our Vital Energy Part 2,” it will explore love, courtship, marriage, and the cycles of life featuring the Gaddang, Tboli, and Sama Dilaut.

“We are fortunate to have shot a treasure trove of material before the pandemic began. This has enabled us to go on with our mission of telling the stories of our indigenous peoples so that future generations may still be able to appreciate and continue their legacy,” said ANC chief operating officer Nadia Trinidad.

NCCA Chair Arsenio “Nick” Lizaso expressed his gratitude to former Senator Legarda and ANC for their part in bringing our indigenous people’s knowledge and heritage closer to Filipino and even foreign viewers.

“I would like to commend Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda for her vision and commitment to preserve, promote and enrich our culture and heritage, and to ANC for translating that vision into an exemplary body of work,” he said.

TECNO Mobile Donates Cash and Smartphones to Local Community Heroes

The brand’s first CSR campaign celebrates and honors everyday heroes from the three pillars of the community - the local government, civic groups, and the church.

Three partner beneficiaries representing different pillars of the community were the recipients of donations made by TECNO Mobile for this CSR campaign - Ina ng Lupang Pangako Parish, Project Malasakit, and the City of Manila through the Office of Mayor Isko Moreno. Separate handover ceremonies were held for each of the beneficiaries, the first of which was held on July 13th, at the Ina ng Lupang Pangako Parish Area.

In the middle of Bgy. Payatas, an area deemed a hazardous place to live due to its proximity to an open area for solid waste disposal, you will find the Ina ng Lupang Pangako Parish. This church’s leaders and volunteers provide educational and livelihood opportunities for the urban poor community living in Payatas, funded by donations from different entities. For its own CSR campaign, TECNO Mobile, represented by TECNO Mobile Limited’s Brand Marketing Director for Philippines, Jason Liang, donated Php 100,000 to the parish, along with 10 smartphones to be shared with hardworking parish volunteers, who tirelessly organize and facilitate activities such as community pantries, counseling, webinars, and online masses. The second handover ceremony also took place on July 13th, at the Tikme Dine restaurant in Quezon City, this time with Project Malasakit as the beneficiary. Project Malasakit is a scholarship program whose mission is to bridge the gap between Filipinos who want to help, and Filipino children who need the assistance. Its goal is to provide these children with proper education, enabling them to change their own lives for a better future. 30 TECNO Mobile smartphones, plus Php 100,000 were given to Project Malasakit by TECNO Mobile Limited’s Brand Marketing Director for Philippines, Jason Liang, graciously received by its founder, Kara David, together with two of her scholars, Lilian Ambrocio and Mauwe Liwanag .

The final donation handover took place on August 6th at the Office of Manila City Mayor, Isko Moreno. Mayor Isko is known for his service to the local community, aided by his team of volunteer workers who man community hotlines, respond to reports, handle coordination for projects such as the recent vaccine rollout, and work at the local public school as teachers. For these community heroes, TECNO Mobile has donated 50 smartphones, and Php 200,000 through the mayor’s office. The donation was handed over by the TECNO Mobile Limited executives for the Philippines, headed by Lindsay Guan, CEO, and received by Manila City Mayor, Isko Moreno.

Manila Water’s TBM-driven Novaliches-Balara Aqueduct 4 project nears completion

The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) celebrates Manila Water’s milestone in its landmark Novaliches-Balara Aqueduct 4 (NBAQ4) project as the tunnel-boring machine (TBM) being utilized for the project has already broken through at the La Mesa Reservoir, more than seven kilometers away from its entry shaft at Balara in Quezon City. The Php5.5B NBAQ4 project, one of the largest MWSS-led water supply infrastructure projects undertaken by Manila Water, entails the construction of a fourth aqueduct from the La Mesa Reservoir to the Balara Treatment Plants (BTP) 1 and 2 to improve the reliability and security of the raw water transmission system. 

In a simple ceremony held last August 14 to celebrate this milestone, workers and guests witnessed the exposure of the TBM cutter head from the soft concrete at the exit shaft. The tunnel-boring machine technology, used for the first time in Metro Manila for this project, has been laying the 7.30-kilometer long and 3.10-meter diameter NBAQ4 underneath Commonwealth Avenue, without impact to traffic since its launch on January 28, 2020. With the pipelaying complete, the TBM named “Dalisay” and its accessories will now be dismantled and the construction of intake tower, outlet tower, and downstream network system will now commence. The project is expected to be completed by June 2022. Manila Water’s partners in this project are Arup as the project management consultant; and NOVABALA joint venture, the project’s design and build contractor composed of CMC di Ravenna (Italy), First Balfour, Inc. (Philippines), and Chun Wo Engineering (Hong Kong). MWSS Board of Trustees Chairman and OIC Administrator Gen. Reynaldo Velasco (Ret.) said that this flagship project of Manila Water is part of the agency’s water security program under the current administration. 


“Part of the agency’s landmark achievements is coming up with interim and long-term water source projects to approximate at least 4,000 million liters per day (MLD) in the next 10 or 25 or, hopefully, 50 years,” he said.
Noting that the three existing aqueducts, built in 1929, 1956, and 1968 respectively, are already nearing, if not already exceeding, the service life of 50 years for concrete structures, Velasco cited the urgent need of assessment and rehabilitation even as he commended Manila Water for the completion of this important water security component flagship project. The existing aqueduct system continuously transmits 1,600 million liters per day (MLD) of raw water to BTP.


The NBAQ4 project shall provide a new aqueduct to enable the sequential temporary service suspension of the existing aqueducts for inspection, assessment, and subsequent rehabilitation to help ensure continuous water supply for more than 7 million population served in the East Zone. The NBAQ4 system is composed of a new intake facility at La Mesa, a 1,000-MLD underground aqueduct, and an outlet facility at BTP. Upon completion, the project will also provide emergency redundancy in the event of a failure in any of the existing aqueducts.

Just recently, she has announced that she has left Star Image Management (I've watched that too!) for some legal and valid reasons after consulting her family, friends and acquiring legal advise from her lawyer. She has stressed her insights and feelings of leaving the said management and that, she also mentioned that, there was no concrete plan/s for her as the contract per se. 

She feels lost and had failed by doing such decision (signing the contract) she expressed. Plus the fact that, she's gaining a lot of viewers and followers but there were no "miners" on her online shop so that is another major, major problem for her.

If I were in Madam Inutz's shoes, these are all but good signs of decent and fruitful relationship with SirWil. What I mean is, if she failed the first time, why not give herself another chance ... and this time, with the help of SirWil... under SirWil's management. If I were to say my piece, I guess she'll be very well taken of, and will not be undemined of her own capabilities and SirWil will not take advantage of her, having been known for his very good background, reputation and achievements.
