Early Mother's Day treat with Posh Nails Lemongrass-Ginger plus a movie!

Beauty treatment and pampering. They both come together and us, girls always love to spoil and engage ourselves into it, right?

Just like treating ourselves in a salon, like Posh Nails and giving ourselves more time to relax like watching movies.

Just recently,  I was invited by Posh Nails to try their latest summer trestment which is the Lemongrass-Ginger for hands and feet to feel more fresh!

With my blogger/friend Nikole of chubbychitchat.com during our pampering day at Posh Nails Mall of Asia

Posh Nails Hand and Foot Spa located at the 2nd floor, North Wing of SM Mall of Asia branch

I feel  so fresh  and the scent's so light and enticing

The essential oils from the refreshing lemongrass herb contaiin antioxidants and vitamins that prevent skin conditions.  The soothing oils are used to minimize pores and act as a moisturizer against dry skin.

Ginger is a common spice for cooking, and it has been used in traditional medicine through the centuries. It has been found to be beneficial for the skin too.  It is said to have major anti-aging benefits, as it contains numerous anti-oxidant properties that prevent damage caused by free radicals in the environment. Ginger has been said to even out skin tones and improve elasticity for firmer, younger looking skin. In addition, invigorating ginger is used to reduce cellulite.

To get you summer-ready, the Posh Nails pampering package uses a luxurious paraben-free Lemongrass Ginger Sugar Scrub to gently exfoliate rough skin, followed by a super-hydrating Lemongrass Ginger Moisture Mask that is rich in anti-oxidants and skin regenerating ingredients to soften, rejuvenate, and brighten skin to a glowing and youthful appearance while repairing skin damage. The Lemongrass Ginger  Luxury Lottion is a hydrating product that helps restore dry/ damaged skin to healthy looking and feeling condition.

Ready to step outside with confidence and glee!

The treatments are designed to stimulate the senses through gentle aromattherapy, leaving it with intense hhydration lasting for hours. The pampering experience is topped off with the application of nail polish, with a wide array of choices from handpicked products.

True enough! My hands feel so moisturized,  fresh and smell so good!

The whole pampering day was made possible by premium brands ORLY and OPI, together with Finese Shampoo and Jincos Printing & Copying Services.

"Bayanihan" as a model for BSM’s service learning

The British School Manila is justifiably proud of its commitment to service learning.  The idea of developing students as global citizens is central to our vision and mission. We are looking for our students to leave us with skills that allow them to make sense of a rapidly changing world whilst also being able to contribute to making their world more peaceful, fair and sustainable.

The Creativity Activity Service (CAS) programme is an integral part of the International Baccalaureate core programme and is in many ways the perfect realisation of the work we do with our older students. Our International Baccalaureate team recently completed the end of course CAS interviews with the current Year 13 cohort and it was clear to us that it was the service learning experiences that had the most resonance and impact upon the students’: personal, social, emotional and even moral development. The Year 13 students spoke eloquently and thoughtfully about their work with local schools, orphanages and hospitals.  They talked about the work they had done, the relationships they had formed and ethical implications of the work that they were undertaking. The depth of reflection in evidence was confirmed by how often the discussions centred on poverty, inequality and individual responsibility.

This year we have had the opportunity to remodel the CAS programme to create more of these moments of epiphany.  Our new approach, led expertly by Mr. Owen, is called “Bayanihan” from the Filipino word ‘bayan,’ which captures the spirit of community we see in Filipino culture and which we seek to mirror. The students have been encouraged to develop projects in line with their own passions and interests within broad categories such as ‘Health’, ‘Environment’ and ‘Education’.

The strategic developments this year were framed following a successful and insightful pilot last year led by Mr. Owen in Tagaytay. This venture presented a group of IB Business Management students with a problem - ‘How can they use their business acumen to help develop a sustainable income for a group of 16 mothers’? It was a privilege to observe how the students worked together to empower a group of local women with great ideas to become successful entrepreneurs.

The projects this year are incredibly diverse. We have groups preparing “baby boxes” for maternity hospitals, building chicken coops, certifying language skills for adult learners, developing hydroponics systems and fixing computers to improve education in a community.  The projects have many layers, with strong educational themes and all the projects focus on sustainability and the fostering of partnerships which we hope will be nurtured and maintained beyond CAS week in May.

One distinctive feature of the Bayanihan projects this year is the emphasis on independence; the projects will have staff mentors available but our students will be encouraged to take ownership, make decisions, assess risks and manage uncertainty as groups.  This takes us back to our BSM vision and mission; these experiences will equip our IB students with the ability to reflect, to be resilient in adversity and to thrive with challenge.  We look forward to sharing the outcomes with you later in the year. Written by Chris Jones, Secondary Deputy Head.

The British School Manila (BSM) is a highly regarded co-educational British international school established in 1976. The School is proud to uphold the high standard of the British education system and we take full advantage of our multi-cultural setting. We are accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and also a member of The Federation of British International Schools in Southeast Asia and East Asia (FOBISSEA) and The Independent Association of Prep School (IAPS).

At present 900+ students aged 3-18 are on BSM’s roll and 35 nationalities are represented. British children make up 33%, Filipino 22%, Canada 9% ,Australians 8% and American 6% of the total population.

The biggest DIY "Instax and Crafts" with Hello Kitty

Instax
Hello Kitty graced the biggest DIY of Fujifilm's "Instax and Crafts"

The digital age and social media culture has vastly changed the way millennials preserve and keep their memories. Instead of photo albums, today’s tech savvy generation simply upload photos in their blogs and social media sites. Once uploaded or stored in their computer’s memory drive, however, these photos are left forgotten after some time. While convenient, this has inevitably created nostalgia for tangible keepsake of one’s most memorable moments.

FUJIFILM Philippines, Inc.’s Instax has changed the way we use and display our photos through its trendy Instax cameras and colorfully-designed Instax films. More and more millennials have been keen in preserving and displaying their Instax photos.

This summer, FUJIFILM Instax launches the most exciting way you can preserve life’s best moments through FUJIFILM “Instax and Crafts”. Touted as the biggest DIY event this summer, “Instax and Crafts”, held at the Ayala Malls Market! Market! Activity Center last April 9 saw guests and Instax enthusiasts spend an afternoon of arts and crafts workshops with Mikko Sumulong of I Try DIY and Marielle Nadal-Reyes of Craft MNL, while indie folk band The Ransom Collective entertained the crowd with their musical performance. Event attendees learned different and creative ways of how they can keep and showcase their photos through DIY greeting cards and paper-die cut mobile.

“There is a certain kind of joy at looking at one’s photos—more so, if it’s something you can hold on to like a printed photograph. We realized that millennials not only enjoy seeing their favorite memories on Instax prints, they also enjoy displaying them and sharing them with friends and loved ones. Through ‘Instax and Crafts’, we hope that they can see that there are many ways on how they can display and preserve these memories,” shares FUJIFILM division head for electronic and photo imaging Takuya Maeda
“Instax and Crafts” at Market! Market! also marked the launch of the new exciting colors --- red and white --- of the Instax Hello Kitty camera --- and the new Hello Kitty film.

To make this summer even more fun-filled, Instax introduces their summer packages. Instax fans can now avail of their favorite Instax products with FUJIFILM Keep the Summer Fun Alive with Instax and enjoy great savings when you buy any of the trendy and reliable Instax models like Instax Mini 7s, Mini 8, Hello Kitty Mini 8, Mini 70, Instax Wide 300 and Instax Share printer.

With FUJIFILM’s 80-year history and expertise in photographic film manufacturing, making great memories, printing those Instax moments and then transforming them into works of art becomes even more pleasurable.

The “Instax and Crafts” event is supported by Photoline, Picture City, Paper Blush, Maped, Elmer’s Glue, Artline, and Kettle Corn.

Jr.NBA and Jr.WNBA Presented by Alaska search for best basketball players’ ends in National Training Camp in Manila

The Jr.NBA / Jr.WNBA 2016 National Training Camp

The Jr.NBA and Jr.WNBA Presented by Alaska started its search for the best basketball players in the country through Regional Selection Camp that was held at Baguio City, Davao, Cebu and Don Bosco Institute in Makati.

Boys and girls who joined the search for the ten best boys and five best girls basketball players will become members of the Jr.NBA and Jr.WNBA All-Star team. There was also a search for the boys and girls coaches who will handle the two teams.

The All-Star Team will travel overseas for their NBA experience trip together with fellow Jr. NBA All-Stars from Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia. The 2015 Jr. NBA All-Stars traveled to China to watch the NBA Global Games in Shenzhen featuring the Charlotte Hornets and the L.A. Clippers.

The Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA Presented by Alaska is one of Alaska Milk’s programs that shape, train, challenge and inspire children to achieve their dreams and aspirations in life.

“These holistic programs train children to be confident, disciplined and hardworking because Alaska Milk Corporation aims to prepare them to be winners in life in the future. This year’s program includes new locations such as Batangas, Catanduanes and Cavite to reach more children and coaches and discover the best basketball players across the country,” said Blen Fernando, Marketing Director.

The 2011 National Nutrition Survey conducted by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) revealed that three out of ten children aged 5-10 years were underweight while eight out of one hundred children of the same age were overweight, making malnutrition and obesity two of the most pressing nutritional problems in the Philippines today.

The Jr.NBA and Jr.WNBA presented by Alaska is under Alaska Milk’s Nutrition.Action. Champion program. It helps address the issue of overweight and undernourished Filipino children with the promotion of proper nutrition and active lifestyle through sports and outdoor play.

This year’s program started with the tip-off at in the same venue last Jan. 23. School clinics, that teach the fundamentals of basketball, ran in April with stops at Bukidnon, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Dagupan, Davao, Iloilo, Metro Manila and Puerto Princesa. New locations include Batangas, Catanduanes and Cavite.

The top 50 boys and 24 girls from the Regional Selection Camps will advance to the final selection stage in the National Training Camp in Manila on April 22-24.

NBA and WNBA legends Norris Cole of New Orleans Pelicans and Taj McWilliams, former Minnesota Lynx, will attend the National Training Camp to help train and inspire the finalists. The program will culminate with the selection of ten Jr. NBA and five Jr. WNBA All-Stars.

That's me, with WNBA Legend, Taj McWilliams, former Minnesota Lynx

More than 36,000 players and 2,700 coaches have participated in the program since it started in the Philippines in 2007. During the 2015-16 season, the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA program will reach more than 6.5 million youth in 32 countries.

The Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA is the league’s global youth basketball participation program for boys and girls which teaches the fundamental skills as well as the core values of the game at the grassroots level in an effort to help grow and improve the youth basketball experience for players, coaches and parents.

Hurom: Your All-In-One Juice Bar

We have reached mainstream status with the juicing lifestyle. Many juice bars have been dotting up the landscape as the emphasis on healthier lifestyles is being celebrated. Buying these signature health juices can be pricey, and the plastic packaging of commercially prepared juices is also not environmentally friendly. It’s more cost effective to just a buy a juicer at the outset. You get the freshest juice possible at a fraction of the cost.    Buying your own juicer also lets customize your juices, and you can take advantage of combining fruits, vegetables, grains, as well as nuts. You can have an endless variety of nutritionally balanced and easy-to-drink vitamin packed health elixirs, but not all juicers are created equal.

Many are still unaware about the concept of slow juicing, as it is a fairly recent one. We used to think that the faster your juicing blades make juice from fruit and vegetable pulp, the better it will be. Now we know better. Like all things worth doing, with juicers it’s better to take things slow.

The Hurom slow juicer is the global leader in this category. It is powerful enough to juice just about anything, but does this is in way that preserves the natural nutrition, flavor and color of your produce. You can easily see that the juice produced using this method will have preserved most of its vibrancy and color.

The Hurom motor works with in a slow but efficient method of extraction that preserves the enzymes and nutrients of your fruits and vegetables. Certain models are even capable of producing nut milks, which is a healthier alternative to dairy. There is no need to strain the nut milk, which you would do if done in an ordinary blender.

Most commercial juices do not get to preserve the phytonutrients and enzymes present in fruit and vegetable because the power of the blades used to extract their juices damage the cell wall of the produce. You will notice that the juice produced from these kinds of juicers are darker and oxidize easily.  Furthermore, a lot commercial juices are pasteurized which further degrades their nutritional benefits.

Hurom gives you maximum control over your juicing needs, and the variety and combination of flavors and textures you can concoct are endless. The official Hurom website gives a lot of tips. www.hurom.com

Hurom is also perfect for on-the-go lifestyles as it is easy to concoct juices bring to the gym or to work. Clean up is also easy as you just rinse three pieces and you’re done. The design of the Hurom juicer has won many international awards for its beauty and efficiency.  With Hurom you don’t just own another appliance, as much as you get a ticket to a healthier and more vibrant life choice.

Hurom Slow Juicers are available in Abenson, Anson Link, Duty Free, Gourdo’s, Rustan’s, Landmark, Metro Gaisano, Royal Duty Free, S&R, SM Appliance, SM Home, True Value, and Western Appliances.
