The Amazing Spider-Man Experience

Filipinos were so lucky being one of the first ones to watch this spectacular movie "The Amazing Spider-Man," while other countries including the United States, have been counting the days and nights 'til its first screening on July 03, 2012.

Taking advantage of this rare chance, I decided to catch the advanced screening at SM IMAX 3D theater in Mall of Asia (MOA). You can check-out movie schedules here.

We got the June 29, 12:01 AM slot, yay!

While waiting at the lounge, the whole venue was so filled with "Spidey" fanatics from different generations, genders and class. But there's one thing that we all do have in common... we're all excited about the whole muvee and how would Andrew Garfield do justice to his role as Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man.

Part of the waiting crowd gathered at the SM IMAX lounge

People get in line to have a lucky pick from the bowl and claim their free posters.
Well I got a pen hehe :)

Aside from the SM IMAX Baller ID, we were also given Krispy Kreme doughnuts and paper hats, there's my pen and the exclusive poster.

We were also given a free coffee, sakto, inaantok na talaga ko that time! :))

Since the seats were all occupied, this group caught my attention... picnic anyone? :P
I find it cool though, specially if you do it with your friends.

Of course, it would be a little-less happy without your peers, hehe

Haiz, I really need this kick! hihihi

"La lang," this too caught me, nice noh?

Almost there... this is the entrance to the left side of the theater

At 11:45 PM, here's the view (IMAX and SMDC parking lot) from where we lined up for entrance

Finally, we got in and got my 3D glasses on hehe (excited?! excited?!)

To tell you honestly, I really don't have any plans of documenting and blogging about this whole "thing." I just got really inspired by those people who really came out of their way staying late, even had their kids tagged along, even the grandmas and grandpas were there. It was like a gathering of sorts, a "bonding" which the Filipinos are popularly known for. Amazing, right?!

Now we turn our wheels to the movie... frankly speaking, I am not an avid reader of Spider-Man nor any of Marvel comics' stories. Being a movie enthusiast, I never fail to catch them on screen. But since I've been talking to few Marvel comics readers, I found out that one of Spider-Man's edited story from Toby Maguire's three flicks (2002, 2004 and 2007) was the "spider web" coming out of his wrists.

Spider-Man Web Shooter

With the latest Spider-Man movie, it was presented that Peter Parker himself made his very own web shooter aside from customizing his "spandex" costume. And that alone, really made an impact to the story. And now, the makers of this film can fully claim that, the untold chapter of Spider-Man was finally unveiled.

Andrew Garfiled as the new Spider-Man

I would like to commend the whole production for making this film so AMAZINGLY Spectacular! And this is the other reason why I opted to blog about this. I didn't expect that Andrew Garfield will be this great and he did exceed our expectations and gave justice to his character. Clap, clap, clap! Bravo! Andrew's been working hard for this character for six months, he had undergone physical preparations, doing strength, agility and core training, even nutritional monitoring. Do you think that by just plain camera, digital or graphic tricks, these would all work? Nah ah, as his character requires and as part of the movie's preparation per se, Andrew even had to do some trampoline works, power core moves, perfecting basketball skills, as well as martial arts, gymnastic and parkour works for three months. And it all paid-off! Whew! It was indeed a tiring, critical and yet a very humbling task being a superhero like Spider-Man huh! :))

Spider-Man came out of the manhole

It was refreshing to see on screen such brilliant and award-winning Hollywood actors like Martin Sheen, playing the role of Uncle Ben and Ms. Sally Field as Aunt May.

Martin Sheen (Uncle Ben) and Sally Field (Aunt May)

On the other hand, Emma Stone who appeared in several movies like Friends With Benefits and Crazy, Stupid, Love opposite Ryan Gosling plays Gwen Stacy as Peter Parker's love interest in the movie.

Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy) and Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker)

Some of the scenes of Spider-Man's life story were presented in different versions but the significant thing is, the whole movie gave justice to itself. You know, I'd really wanted to pour some more points here but the rest is all for you to find out! So, if ever you have the chance and means, please I do encourage you to watch it in 3D, and you'll be more than AMAZED.
I tell you, you'll love it as much as I did.
I don't want to be a spoiler but please do stay in your seats 'til the film credits start to run on the screen. See you at the next "The Amazing Spider-Man" folks, since they're now preparing for the shooting of its sequel. :))

Gardo at Theo, maghaharap sa pagtatapos ng Valiente

JC De Vera as Gardo Valiente and Oyo Sotto as Theo Braganza

Hope you could also read my other post on Valiente. Thanks!

The easiest way to beat Exam Stress and Anxiety

Cramming, exams, pop quizzes, oral exams, graded recitations, deadlines, group projects and a lot of daily factors make the students stressed and feel anxious; more so, physically exhausted and sometimes mentally drained.

Do you think the students could cope up with these bunch of stress factors without giving them some food supplements? I don't think so... what I give to my son is this tried and tested food supplement called Brand's Essence of Chicken, naturally, it has ProBeptigen, an amazing peptide that can help boost the level of serotonin in the brain and has been known to fight stress, fatigue, and help improve concentration and motivation.

A lot of distractions surround us everyday, we may also be affected by not having enough sleep (maybe due to night-outs with friends, late-night work at the house or noisy neighbors, hehe), dealing with personal problems, caring for our little ones, medical emergencies... and the list goes on and never ends.

To make it easier for you and for all of us to face any type of exam, or even for the students and those reviewing for their board exams, here are some tips that could help you relieve exam stress and anxiety:

  • Everything you know is already inside your head. Given that you actively participate in your classes, you just need to unlock or refresh the knowledge you have inside your brain.
  • Start early. Your brain won’t absorb all the information you need to answer the exam just by having a tiring all-night review session. Give it time, a few weeks before the exam, to remember all the topics and everything else will follow.
  • Organize your review schedule. Prepare an outline of what you’re going to review every day. It would be very helpful to determine the topics for review ahead of time, compared to jumping from one topic to the other. This can avoid more confusion and stress while exam week nears.
  • Get help. There is nothing to be ashamed of and it would be easier for you to understand topics that are giving you a hard time by getting help from someone who really knows. Go ask your instructor or a classmate.
  • Get the right amount of sleep, food and exercise. Your brain is still part of your body and still needs proper nutrition to function well. Lack of these three factors may impede your performance.
  • Relax before exam day and stay calm. Putting your brain to so much stress could only hamper your performance in the exam. When our mind is stressed it clouds our judgment; but when it is calm, we see things clearer.
  • Reward yourself. Cut yourself some slack and feel free to indulge yourself with other activities after the exam.

You are sure to improve your performance in school and in work, too, plus with proper diet, rest, and regular exercise—of course with once-a-day regular consumption of BRAND'S® Essence of Chicken,  made from fine-quality chicken without any additives, fats and cholesterol, to help keep the brain healthy.

Facing exams may be frightening, but with enough preparation, a clearer mindset and of course, a focused disposition towards school, all the anxiety and unnecessary stress will stop bothering you once you’re back to school to make your school life and exam performance stress and anxiety-free.

Available in 42-gram and 70-gram bottles, with suggested retail prices of P68 and P108, respectively, BRAND’S® Essence of Chicken is sold at Mercury Drug stores in Metro Manila.

Knowing the real K-La Rivera

Remember K-La Rivera? K-La is Kayla Meagan Iovan in real life, she’s one the final contenders in ABS-CBN’s singing search program, “Star Power” hosted by the Megastar Sharon Cuneta wherein Angeline Quinto emerged as the winner.
Having been raised in Calgary, Canada, my first impression of this “not just” a pretty face K-La before meeting her was, I thought she is a “snob” and “complicated” person but spending almost a couple of hours chatting and laughing with her, proved us all wrong.

The very candid K-La during the Bloggers' Meet

Her showbiz name, K-La was her own concept, she admitted, to have a “recall” for easy recognition just like J.Lo, one her fave artists as well as Beyonce. An avid fan of RnB (Rhythm and Blues) herself, she also wanted to try different genres as much as possible but still hopes to have a career in Musical theater.

"In The Heights" cast

Speaking of which, the talented artist had been part of the Atlantis Productions’ repeat run of rap-musical play, “In the Heights” last March along with other performers, Nyoy Volante, Jackie Lou Blanco and Ima Castro. And oh, not to forget, she used to be a MYX VJ and was given a privelege to sing the theme song of the movie “Pureza,” the launching movie of Melai Cantiveros, entitled “I’m Feeling Sexy Tonight,” which was originally done by Chona Cruz in the 80’s.

Watch K-La as she sings few lines from
"I'm Feeling Sexy Tonight"

Just like a dream come-true to her, this coming November until December, K-La will be playing Princess Jasmine together with PBB ex-housemate Tom Rodriguez in the musical play, “Aladdin.” When asked about the preparations she’d made so far for the upcoming musical play, she said she’s doing some researching and been watching DVD’s of Aladdin. And when asked about the idea of Ms. Lea Salonga watching her perform, she expressed, “Nakakanerbiyos talaga, it’s nerve-wracking, I hope I can do justice to the role, since “Aladdin” would be played for the first time here in the Philippines.”

K-La with me and my fellow bloggers (photo by Ely's Planet)

Aside from singing, the twenty-year old singer hopes to also excel in dancing and acting. She loves to write songs, but she thinks this is not the right time for her to share her works, not yet hehe. She takes care of her voice by simply avoiding cold water and drink lukewarm water instead. She keeps herself healthy and physically fit by regularly working-out and minimizing consumption of sweets. Being young hasn't been a determent to her when it comes to self-discipline, and I really admire her for that. :)) She considers herself more of a homebody and she’s not a “night” person, she loves to spend more time with her family and close relatives. She’s fond of reading inspirational books and believes that everything happens for a reason, and there’s a reason why she’s here.

Adding to her list of faves, she enjoys singing Tagalog songs and two of which are “Kailangan Kita” and “Kahit Isang Saglit.” She hopes to do collaboration with Mr. Pure Energy, Gary Valenciano someday. K-La even shared that haven’t been given this great opportunity in show business, she’d would’ve pursued her studies and be a psychologist, dentist or have a business of her own. Wanna know her biggest crush?
It’s Sam Milby! ;))

Papa Sam Milby

Lastly, K-La is now a certified recording artist; she releases her debut album under Star Records with the following revival songs: “Lover has Come My Way,” “Say That You Love Me,” “Inseparable,” “Someone’s Always Saying Goodbye” and “You’re All That I Need.”
Good luck to you K-La, I know you deserve everything but the best and we also wish for your success and eventually become an international artist in God’s time. You have our support.

That's me with pretty K-La :))

Special thanks to Flow Galindez for this rare opportunity. :))

BAG TO SCHOOL: BUM's Stylish Back To School Bags

Standing out at school doesn’t mean you have to constantly challenge the rules and break your school’s dress code.

So before you walk down the crowded hallway again, make sure you’re clad in cool pieces and armed with the right accessories that would reflect your no-nonsense rebel attitude.

Taking off from its successful “Teevolution” campaign, which called forth an outpour of vibrant colors, bold prints, and graphic ethnic patterns, innovative brand BUM helps the youngsters today stand out by upping their style quotient and street cred before the school year starts.

Veering away from the normal and the ordinary design concepts of most local clothing labels, BUM comes up with stylish yet functional bags that carry the brand’s style philosophy: the Modern Goth Look with a touch of Glam Rock (think studded pieces, motorcycle jackets, tapered pants, oversized shirts, and the like).

This utilitarian concept was made casual by BUM, turning motorcycle jackets into cropped ones, and with notched collar jackets for boys. They can also go for the “casual cool” look with chino cuffed pants that allow them to swing from schoolwork to play without breaking a sweat.

Girls, who love pieces that can be mixed and matched with their favorite tops and bottoms, will be delighted to know that BUM has whipped up something new for them, as well. BUM introduces the rayon fabric for girls and exciting new designs such as 2-in-1 tops, casual blazers, and blouses with built-in mini designed to look like tunics.

Skinny jeans and jeggings have also found their way into BUM’s new collection. Stylish yet comfortable, these pants can flatter any shape and can be worn with a baggy top, a comfy cardigan, or a fitted jacket to create proportion. Girls with short legs can pair these with heels (stilettos or knee-high boots), while long-legged girls can opt for comfy flats.

Making a statement, however, is not limited to a person’s wardrobe. BUM has also come up with trendy bags that can complete one’s  getup.

Splashed with catchy, statement patterns, the BUM Tote bag for girls/teens, for instance, are printed with provocative messages that speak volumes about the wearer’s personality or mood for the day.

Made of printed canvas mixed with poly-fine fiber, the BUM Reversible Bag is designed with eye-catching patterns and minimal accent details. Since both sides (inner and outer) have designs, it’s like having two bags in one!

Going back to school has never been this cool and fashionable.
BUM is available in leading department stores nationwide.

Operation Smile Turns 30 via "Journey Home"

Operation Smile Philippines (OSP) Singing Ambassador, Chadleen Lacdo-o, Ms. Universe 2011 3rd runner-up and OSP Ambassador Shamcey Supsup, former cleft lip patient Angel and joaquin E. Quintos IV, Chairman OSP Board of Trustees

"Children show me in their playful smiles the divine in everyone." - Michael Jackson

Kathleen S. Magee and Dr. William P. Magee

It has been thirty wonderful and amazing years since the kind-hearted couple Dr. William P. Magee Jr., a plastic surgeon and his wife, Kathleen S. Magee, a registered nurse, participated in an event that would forever change their lives - and the lives of thousands of children around the world. They were co-founders of Operation Smile, an international children's medical charity that has originated here in our very own country, the Philippines, specifically in Naga City, Camarines Sur, Bicol region.

In 1982, the Magees together with their group of medical volunteers set foot here in the Philippines for the first time to repair children's cleft lips ans cleft palates. Haven't been able to treat all the patients and families that had come before them, they felt the need and inspired them to make a promise to return to help more children thus, Operation Smile was born.

Today, Operation Smile has grown, conducting surgical missions in over 60 countries with a global network of more than 5,000 volunteers from 80 countries. It has provided over two million comprehensive health care evaluations and over 200,000 free surgeries for children and young adults born with clefts, of which more than 24,000 are Filipinos.

Mr. Joaquin Quintos

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Operation Smile International, it has once again returned to the Philippines via the program "Journey Home." “It is indeed a very significant move for OSI (Operation Smile International) to celebrate the organization’s 30th year here in the Philippines. We are privileged and honored to host ‘The Journey Home’,” says Joaquin Quintos, chairman of Operation Smile Philippines (OSP), the in-country organization of OSI.

Mr. Roberto Manzano speaking during the event

Operation Smile’s “The Journey Home” is a series of medical missions that seeks to change a child’s life by conducting free surgery to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities. “It is touching how the mother organization OSl continues to give back to the country where it began. It is truly a fitting tribute to the country and the Filipinos are equally grateful for this,” says Roberto Manzano, OSP president and executive director.

Here's the "Journey Home" Medical Mission Schedule

The program "Journey Home" was launched just recently at the Mandarin Oriental, Manila. it was a well-attended event that known personalities, business tycoons, political figures, medical professionals, commoners and media people gathered and united to join and express full support to this humble program in order to promote the mission and vision that the Operation Smile International had been gearing for.

We've viewed a very heartfelt AVP during the event which I'd like to share with all of you and it's entitled

"A Smile Changes Everything"

Here's another one, this is a short AVP but it also conveys truthful and very touching message...

"Beggar"

This young and very innocent kid in the "Beggar" video was Angel

And this is Angel today after her miraculous 45-minutes operation. Angel was such a sweet baby.

I've signed my vow of support to the foundation hoping that by this simple blog of mine, could reach and touch the hearts of many and extend their helping hand to those in need. In that way, we'll be able to change more lives... we can do this, we can change the world.

It will take as little as 45 minutes to create a smile...
and change someone's life forever.
