Himig Handog P-POP Love Songs Final Night Live at SM Mall of Asia Arena

I've always been fascinated with contests, searches or competitions that cater Pinoy's genuine talents. It primarily promotes best Filipino savvy thereby rendering great honor and prestige for our country. This time, in celebration of 60 years of Philippine television, ABS-CBN and Star Records had set the stage once again for brilliant Filipino composers globally. It was relaunched as "Himig Handog" with the theme, "Pinoy Pop (P-POP) Love Songs: Mga Awit at Kuwento ng Pusong Pilipino."

During the "Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs" presscon held at 9501 Restaurant in ELJ bldg. at ABS-CBN compound, I got to talk to Marion Aunor, one of my bets in this competition. She told us that her inclination towards music writing come from her grandmother who's into writing Christian songs. She can play some musical instruments like drums, guitar and piano. according to her, the genre she digs are mostly ballad, blues and pop songs and more comfortable with anything on the piano. Marlon has a very distinct and unique voice, having a great resemblance with Zia Quizon, whom we (me and Marion) both love.
Marion Aquino holding a copy of "Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs" cd

Her expectations from this competition? "Well I guess to be known as a singer/songwriter, especially since not a lot of artists write their own songs right now, so you know, I guess that would be kinda like an edge." Now you hear that from a young artist who's got a lot of potential. Best of luck, Marion!

Well, that was just me in the middle hehe, flanked by Ms. Lala Aunor, (L) Marlon's mom and with Marion herself (R).

Another promising artist, towering young man, Wynn Andrada

with Bugoy Drilon, I also love his interpretation of "Pwede Bang ako Na lang Ulit"

"Himig Handog..." artists Jovit Baldivino, Juris and Bugoy Drilon during the presscon

"Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs" grand finals will be held today, February 24, 2013 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena and will be aired over ABS-CBN. Catch the big winners tonight!

ANC's Newest Lifestyle Show, "OPEN HOUSE," Pro-Family... Pro-Friends

"Open House" hosts, Ms. Jing Castaneda and Chase Tinio

One of the biggest and greatest news that I've learned this year, is that, our economy is getting stronger, with local and foreign investments kept pouring in and of course, tourism is at its most favorable status. Our nation's been acquiring numerous recognition and recommendations from different sectors globally. And in terms of real estate matters, it is being projected that, this year, 2013, would be a very great year for all of us to acquire a property which we know for a fact, that it could be very tedious and risky, right?

Well, what do you know, here's another awesome and extensive news coming our way! The Property Company of Friends, Inc. (PRO-FRIENDS), one of the fastest growing developers in the country has come up with a rare and fascinating show entitled "Open House." It aims to share some tips in property selection as in acquiring a place for each family called home.

Real property management could be so drudging for us, it's also too tacky and stressful as well.
As timely as it is, "Open House" is here to serve as a guide especially for the first time home buyers out there. It's main scheme is to help us from choosing the type of house that suits to our family's size and lifestyle, location of the house, in aligning the our selection to our budget until the most practical tips in home basics and how to transform our house into a beautiful, safe and wholesome dwelling place for our family.

My very dear friend, Jing Castaneda, main host of this newest lifestyle show said, "I'm very happy to partner up with PRO-FRIENDS, because so far, the community that we visited with Chase, are communities na talagang gusto mong ilagay ang iyong pamilya." Aside from tips for home selection, the show is filled with interesting segments like home improvement, FAQ (Furniture & Appliance Questions), home organizer, quick fix, bargain hunting (watch out for this mommies!) and family first. Since Jing is a very dedicated mom, I'm pretty sure that she'd be sharing her most helpful secrets and she is so humble enough to say that she is very open for any comments and suggestions that you might want them to tap in their show. Just follow her on twitter @JINGCASTANEDA and tweet her.

This newest magazine show could be very exciting and interactive as well. Jing is joined by Chase Tinio, one of the eligible bachelors in town, a chef, an entrepreneur and owner of Express Hair Studio and also one of the pioneer hosts of Kabuhayang Swak na Swak (KSS) together with Ms. Amy Perez. So you better check out "Open House" every Saturday at 6 pm on ANC simulcast on The Filipino Channel (TFC). They're going to have its pilot episode today, February 23, 2013 with replays every Sunday, 11 am.

Philippines promises us a brighter hope of tomorrow. A hope for our children that for each family we may possibly acquire a place which is not only a house but a beautiful place to live in called home.

"Open House" hosts with me and other mommy blogger/ friends during their presscon (L-R):
JR Bustamante, Angeline Demo, Myrna Roman, Ning Buning and Josephine Bonsol.
Thanks to Jing Castaneda and her hubby Nonong Velasco for our happy group picture

Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology (PAO) Rolls Out "EyeBags" Project for School Children

The Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology (PAO) has recently organized “EyeBags,” a campaign that seeks to support the education of students from underprivileged families through the donation of various school materials. Incorporating ‘green’ into the advocacy, eye doctors from all over the Philippines have committed to donate hundreds of unused bags from medical conferences that they attend every year.
“These convention bags are highly functional.  Instead of throwing these away, we thought of engaging all the eye doctors who are members of the PAO to donate the bags and reach out to Filipino school children in need of support. The project has grown tremendously that we have expanded to donating other school materials to help promote and enhance students’ learning experience in their schools,” shared Dr. Johann Michael Reyes, PAO Committee Chair for Public Relations.
This year, volunteers from  the  PAO and graduates from Xavier  High School, Class of  ’82  trooped to  Paraway  Mangyan  Elementary School in Puerto  Galera,  Oriental Mindoro to distribute bags, school supplies, clothing  items and teaching materials that will benefit both students and teachers.  “We believe that education is one of the best ways to change society. With this project, we endeavour to help instil hope in the hearts of Filipino children, one Eye Bag at a time,” Dr. Reyes said.
The PAO accepts donations through its secretariat. Individuals and organizations may contact PAO at 813-5318 or send their donations to Unit 815 Medical Plaza Makati Condominium, Amorsolo corner Dela Rosa Streets, Legaspi Village, Makati.

The PAO is an internationally-recognized specialty society of ophthalmologists in the Philippines. It aims to ensure access to quality eye care for Filipinos. The PAO commits to continuously develop its members professionally through clinical education, research and practice management, in a collegial and harmonious environment, contributing to ethical, professional and compassionate practice. For more information about the PAO, please visit: www.pao.org.ph.

Thousand Teas: My Healthiest AnTEAcipation Unleashed

TEA

Lao Tzu, founder of Taoism has regarded tea very highly and described it as "the froth of the liquid jade"- an indispensable ingredient to the elixir of life.
A historical icon, tea served as a witness to the history of men. From the mountains of China to the coasts of America. It was a potent flavor in the steeping of the modern civilization.

Arising from a humble plant called Camella Sinensis, a variety of tea beverages can be brewed, thus,
has fulfilled its promise of  concocting health benefits.

When we hear the word "tea," it absolutely connotes a healthy drink which is beneficial for all of us, right?  That is why, when I got the invitation to try it out and have a tea session with blogger/ friends at
Thousand Teas located at the ground floor, MEZZA building, Aurora Blvd., corner Araneta Ave., San Juan City, Metro Manila, I was filled with so much anticipation.

Thousand Teas in Mezza

Thousand Teas' Freshly Baked Scones (only Php 55.00) best consumed while drinking tea especially with a smile from their friendly staff :))

Mr. Gilbert Jim, (we call him "Papa Chen" aka Richard Yap look at the close resemblance hihi), Thousand Teas Managing Director, was so amiable and generous in sharing us the brief history of tea, its attributes and some ways (traditional and modern) on how to appreciate and enjoy our tea.

Mr. Jim (holding a milk tea) has always a ready smile for everyone

Harvesting, picking and processing Camella Sinensis bush yields 5 classes of tea: white tea, green tea, oolong tea, black tea and pu·erh tea. The health benefits of tea has already been recognized 5,000 years ago; it is used as a treatment for infectious diseases, colds, an aid to digestive and nervous systems. It is also being connected in lowering chances of acquiring variety of diseases like cancer and cardiovascular disease with constant consumption.

Tea is usually the chosen drink of athletes. It can fast track the metabolism through a process called "thermogenesis," thereby maximizing the benefits of a good workout while increasing endurance. It also increases mental alertness and concentration. It is also believed that tea reduces levels of stress hormones having the substance called theanine, it has the capacity to improve the body's immune system helping it keep up with the fast pace of modern times. Adding to that, tea has been also helpful providing wellness and beauty,  it aids in soothing the dry skin, it can detoxify or relieve acne, can heal and rejuvenate skin.

Thousand Teas' traditional tea preparation for demonstration

The most astonishing tea I've ever seen-- the Blooming Tea- this handmade variant is known for its unique aesthetic and taste.

Hmmm... the healthiest drink ever!On my left was Flow Galindez of

Frame 1: Strain the Green tea powder; Frame 2: Pour over hot water; Frame 3: Whisk it rapidly in clockwise motion to form a little foamy mixture
(Demo done by Mr. Gilbert Jim)

Jensen Gomez launches "Umpisa" via a jampacked street concert

Jensen Gomez

With almost 500 people in attendance, young singer-songwriter Jensen Gomez’s album launch for Umpisa transformed Guijo Street in Makati into a concert venue last February 1. Jensen, along with his band, performed all the 10 songs included in the album.

To his fans, Jensen’s strength as a singer-songwriter is his uncanny ability to turn heartbreaks into beautiful songs. This is evident in the 10-track-album, which talks about heartbreaks, moving on, regrets, and wanting to start all over again.

“Playing music is my vehicle to express my personal mishaps, experiences, stupidity,” says the young singer-songwriter. “I hope my music will make you feel that you are the only one who is experiencing stuff- heartbreaks, and heartaches. There is, after all, safety in numbers.”

True enough, the number of people who attended the launch proved that people appreciate Jensen’s music. Hosting the event were singer-actress-TV host Karylle and Robin Nievera, a good friend of Jensen. TV, movie and theater star Tippy Dos Santos performed Umpisa with Jensen (the album includes their duet), while former Rivermaya vocalist Jason Fernandez jammed with the song Sisikat Ang Araw.

After Jensen’s 10-song-set, musician friends of the young singer-songwriter performed for the after-party held at Saguijo – Mayonnaise, Carlos Castano and She’s Only Sixteen.

Jensen then performed an acoustic, intimate set for the fans and friends, which further highlighted how musically-gifted he is. Sponge Cola frontman Yael Yuzon showed support by attending the acoustic set.

“The whole process of mounting the album launch was one exciting roller coaster ride,” admits Jensen. “So many changes had to be made, but better things came our way with other people’s help. “

From being one of the most promising names in the independent music scene, Jensen was discovered by Universal Records and management group Orion Entertainment because of the album’s title track and single Umpisa.

“Like any musician my age, I have experienced many difficulties. Luckily, amidst all the struggles, people have been supportive of me and my music. This made me pursue my passion,” expresses Jensen. “The release of this album summarizes everything I’ve been through in the past five years as a person, lover and musician.”

3 Day Mall wide Sale at SM Sta. Mesa from Feb. 15-17, 2013

I find SM Sta. Mesa's location very accessible since it is located at the heart of Metro Manila hence, it was also formerly known as SM Centerpoint. SM Sta. Mesa is surrounded by prime districts of Manila and Quezon City. No wonder this super busy mall has always been the people's hang-out most especially the regular mallers coming from San Juan, Sta. Ana, where I live and also those coming from nearby Quezon City residents.

I had fond memories of this mall, I can still remember the very first item that my mom bought me from the Surplus shop, it was a multicolored checkered shorts which I still keep for more than 20 years now. Perfecting the smile: Operation Smile and Dermatix are giving kids every reason to smile

It takes 43 muscles to frown and only 17 muscles to smile. Judging by that simple piece of trivia, smiling should be the easiest act to do. It doesn’t take a lot to smile. You only need a good reason to do it.
Reasons to smile are bountiful this 2013 as Operation Smile in partnership with Dermatix gave children with cleft lips and palates the opportunity to have the perfect smile during the foundation’s 30th anniversary surgical missions last November 2012.

Those born with cleft lips and/or palates have difficulty in smiling, which is unfortunate given the many reasons for them to smile. Even after these patients undergo surgery, the scars get in the way.
Scars have lingering effects, not only on the physical but also the emotional, psychological, and social aspects of a person with a facial deformity.

Even though scars are the body’s way of healing itself after a major trauma, it leaves marks of their former pain. Scars take away a person’s self-esteem as they wallow in the endless taunts of people who perceived them as freaks.Imagine a child growing up to such an environment while they try to grin and bear these circumstances, even without a proper smile to grin with.

Operation Smile, in partnership with the scar expert, Dermatix is giving these children a reason to smile – and it’s not just because they can physically do so. A perfected smile erases every hint of the pain they used to feel. It gives emotions the avenue to express itself through smile and laughter. Dermatix is Operation Smile’s perfect partner in creating smiles. It is formulated with CPX (cyclopentasiloxane) technology for better flattening and softening of scars while providing Vitamin C ester for photoprotection and skin lightening.

Dermatix is recommended by plastic surgeons and is easy to apply. It is safe for children and has excellent cosmetic properties that give it a smooth and silky feel. Dermatix promises scar reduction in as early as seven days for people who went through facial surgery.

The Philippines has an unwanted abundance of scarred babies born every year with cleft lips and/or palates. For every one in 500 babies born with the facial deformity, this number could go up to 4,004 Filipinos out of the 2,064 million born yearly. In fact, the country’s Department of Health agrees that cleft lip and palates are among the top 12 birth defects in the country.

Thanks to Operation Smile Philippines, over 24,000 Filipinos are given the opportunity to have the perfect smile. And as they continue to forge more partnerships with brands such as Dermatix, more and more Filipino children with facial deformities are given access to a happy and normal life, giving every child a reason to smile.

Veloci Watch: Your Timeless Lifestyle Fashion

Veloci Cruise Collections 1 & 2

It was only last December, that I've told my friends that I was searching for and been wanting to wear a flexible, stylish and fashionable wrist watch that would be suitable for my lifestyle. I've spotted a few latest models in some of the watch shops around the metro and on the net and just before I made my decision to pick my kind of watch, I got an invitation from a friend to attend a gathering last month. (Oh, boy, that really came just right in time, whew!)

And you know what? Surprisingly, we were introduced to an Italian-inspired watch collection which is the Veloci Watch. I was really in an awe that time since Veloci was really one of my top choices in my so-called "watch list" :)) Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw these in front of me....

If you were to choose, what color would you pick? Hmmm...

Oh well, I had thought about that for few minutes, and I picked the green. Now, you're maybe wondrin' why color green, right? It's simply because, this 2013 is the year of the Water Snake and that the colors green and red would be the lucky colors. And I believe that green is a very versatile, unisex color. It so pleasing and refreshing to our sight which makes it so attractive. Sounds reasonable enough huh?! :))

Love this!
The Veloci watch package comes with two extra NATO Nylon straps by Asprey "World of Straps." Historically, it is known for toughness and is being used in military operations since it is dependable, durable and comfortable. Asprey had introduced an entire palette of colors and color patterns to accessorize and heighten every Veloci collection to match every outfit.

Colorful and stylish Asprey NATO nylon straps

I've also learned that apart from its being flexible and stylish, Veloci watch also displays high quality modern collections that gives radiance to the iconic silhouettes of classic time pieces and it had recently made its presence here in the Philippine market. The iconic "modern-vintage" look of the Veloci watch has made it even more appealing and ideal for everyone to wear it in any occasion.

38Veloci Cruise Collection
The wide selection of palette of colors allows us to play with its shades. Being fashionable also means being aware of the vulnerability of those colors, knowing how to mingle and match these stylish 38Veloci  Cruise Collection is a work of art. For an even more trendy and fab ideas, you can choose from these time pieces and interplay with cool pastel pink to subdued hues of grey and classic white to the more trendy red, purple and yellow. The Asprey NATO straps comes in 38mm and should you wish to avail more of its nifty nylon straps, it's only Php 370.00 in various Asprey stores and selected
L TIMESTUDIO and TIME GEAR boutiques. You can also check out their website.

Veloci Cruise Pink Glam

38Veloci Voyager Collection
Nautical fashion has never gone out of style. The Veloci Voyager nautical-inspired watch collection comes in a variety of watch dial colors: orange for the more adventurous individuals, blue, silver and black for those who prefer classic hues. The watch features a rotating bezel and comes in two sizes: regular 40mm and the bigger, more modern 44mm.

Veloci Voyager Black on Black

In today's very modern, busy, techy, digital and interactive world, people are adapting to this kind of lifestyle that's why
 re-invention is a fashion statement.

Here are some of the mix and match I created from my closet, of course wearing the
Green wrist watch from Veloci

My green Veloci on green Aprey NATO strap (wink, wink)
Thanks much Veloci!

Here with the sweet & lovely fashion blogger Dani Barretto during the gathering

with blogger friends Earth Rullan and Cha Sy we're definitely flaunting our Veloci :))

with other Veloci fashion bloggers

This was taken during one sunny, bonding day with my bff-sis Didith, I wore a casual and comfy outfit to match with my green Veloci on a boyish blue and green striped strap. This still looks awesome on me huh, good thing Veloci is a Unisex time piece.

The versatility and flexibility of Veloci is a real knock-out! It is very evident in these pictures right? Hmmm.... waiting in vain but still looking suave and doozie.
Special thanks to my model and my unico hijo-  Jigo aka "Jigs"

Veloci watch is my newest accessory buddy even during evening events. In the pic, I attended Louis Claparols Spring/Summer Collection 2013 held at Prive Luxury Club in BGC.  I was wearing my Veloci Cruise green on white Asprey NATO strap to add accent to my Miley Cyrus Max Azria dress with red chic belt by Space and with my sexy red pumps from Call It Spring. Stylish earrings and necklace set from Hongkong. Attractive fancy beaded bangle by Celine.
Special thanks to my pretty sister Love, for my hair and make-up. :))

Time is so precious my dearies, and it is also considered gold, right? So what you wear depicts who you are and what you do.  And I suggest that for you to be modishly outstanding without spending too much, (btw, Veloci Watch is only Php 2750), have one now, or even more! It's plays an integral part of your fashion statement.

Let your time piece fit in to your lifestyle...
Let Veloci do that, anyway, it's your newest, trendiest
"Timeless Lifestyle Fashion."
