Her passion and motivation to join anf become a beauty queen, perhaps Ms. Intenational or Ms. Universe someday started when she was sixteen years old. The Encantadia stunner and starrer also shared that she's gonna be having three sets of gowns and that there will be some surprise performances by her invited guests and she may or may not perform (it's a surprise!). From her eighteen roses list, she shared, "Mga kasali sa 18 roses mag naka-work ko na guys, sina Jeric Gonzales, Juancho Trivino, sila Roco Nacino, mga Encantadia cast, Pancho Magno, Jak Roberto ayun sila." She doesn't have escort, she admitted.

You want to know what her birthday wish? "Dito sa industry, di man ako forever na nandito, pero gusto ko may tumatak sa mga tao kung sino si Klea Pineda, tumagal man ako pero hindo forever di'ba? Gusto ko lang makilala nila ko na as Klea Pineda na may name sa industry."

The queenly debutant was even more excited and thankful to her Kapuso network, she states, "I am so happy that GMA continues to give me different opportunities for my career. As a fresh face in showbiz, I know I have a lot more to learn, and that's what I'm focused on especially now that I'm 18.

I just wanna wish you a happy happy 18th birthday dear Klea. Here's hoping that you could achieve all your dreams and endeavors in life. We really wanna see you claim the Ms. Universe or Ms. International someday, in God's perfect time.

All the unexpected features for your expected needs at home

The home is where the word comfort is probably felt the strongest. It is a space where its residents can truly loosen up and relax their tensed bodies after a day’s worth of work. It is also where people can really have enjoyment in cooking and eating their food, because it is where they probably tasted their favorite food from their parents’ cooking. The word home has served as more than just a space of comfort and sustenance, it has always been a reason for people to do better in life— in a way making the home better.

One way of making the home better is by filling it in with appliances that could make the home life easier, especially with the chores. While people try to get the most convenient and easy to use equipment. They also tend to get those items that looks good in the space it takes up. Midea, the world’s leading manufacturer of consumer appliances, understands the need for having home solutions that both satisfies form and function that provides surprisingly friendly solutions. With top-notch technology and stylish looks, Midea appliances could also easily get a space in anybody’s home.

One of which is Midea’s Induction Cooker that has a sleek design which gives it a stylishly futuristic look. It could sit lavishly on any kitchen counter top and don’t take that too much space— perfect for those living in condominium units. It is a common notion that induction cookers need specialized pans to cook food, but the truth is, as long as a magnet will stick to your pan there is no need to buy new sets of cookware to use Midea’s Induction Cooker.

It is also easier to control the temperature of the pan, unlike with its predecessors – the gas stoves and other electric cooktops. It is easier to clean because the food only gets cooked in the pan and not on the cooker. At the same time, it won’t burn your hands or fingers, because of its flameless heating and Auto Safe shut off feature that automatically cools off the cooker. It is safe, efficient, and stylish all in one.

And when the going gets tougher every day, and cooking food faster is becoming a challenge, what is usually done is putting leftover food in the microwave oven, and doing a replay of a meal a family already had. What homemakers don’t know was they can actually cook or even bake meals in the microwave oven. With just a few quick adjustments with the settings, Midea’s lineup of Mechanical and Digital Microwave Ovens could cook meals faster than the conventional way of doing it in a pan.

This suits well to those who are always on the go, and didn’t have that much time to prepare their food, or, to those who need to prepare a feast real quick before their guests arrive. Aside from saving time for other things, cooking with the microwave oven makes every meal healthier, because quick cooking locks in more nutrients in the food and because it is not necessary to use oil, the food cooked in the microwave oven has 10% less fat compare to conventional frying.

When it is already time to cool down coming home from work and a hearty meal, Midea has a lineup of Non-Inverter and Inverter Split Type Aircon. One of the common challenges in trying to own an aircon unit is the fear of having some insanely high cost on the electric bill. Midea responds to these challenges with their expertise and advance aircon technology.

Consumers can enjoy the benefits of having an aircon for a longer time without that big cost on the bill with Midea’s Eco Mode feature and DC Inverter Technology. This allows the user set their desired temperature, while Midea does the rest on saving up on energy maintaining the ideal temperature throughout its use. Plus, the consumers won’t need to worry about the noise while they sleep, because Midea added a Quiet Mode feature in its aircon and keep its operation silent.

And another great thing, Midea gives its customers Installation Subsidy to save more on the cost of owning an aircon, given that it will be done by an authorized installer. This is just one of the reasons that makes Midea lead in the after sales warranty category in the Philippine market. Midea prides itself in providing a 5-year warranty for its compressor, which only shows their confidence with the quality of their products. And what’s even more amazing is how these air-conditioning units would look good in any room.

Midea will always be at the forefront of improving their products through extensive research and constant innovation with how they manufacture their technology. This expertise in providing surprisingly home friendly solutions with high quality functionality also meets the consumers’ tasteful eye for style by making these products an appliance to behold on any wall or kitchen counter top.

For more information on Midea’s products check out their website at http://midea.com.ph and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MideaPhilippines.

SM Interior Zone showcases the works of the young Filipino Designers

For every work of art there lies an equivalent and underlying rationale. I guess it depends on every person's perception of the piece of art until you hear from the soul artist himself or herself.

Sometimes you'll figure out that it may be too deep, too broad may be even shallow or plainly too creatively executed. Whatever the reason there is, all I can say is I appreciate art and its value more so if it was created by our "kababayans" or fellow countrymen. They really make us proud.

Just recently, I was invited by SM Home in an art display of crafts and furnitures showcasing the creative works of young Filipino designers of today. The display is located at Interior Zone, you can see it just behind the main mall of SM City North Edsa near the parking area.

The program started with the young designers' self introduction and explaining some of their works which I admit, made me admire them more! I can imagine how happy and proud their parents were seeing these young designers grow and achieve reallarething" out of their ingenuity.

Young designers, Jim Torres, Micki Olaguer and Viktoria Laguyo

These three new breed of designers were all part of the Red Box Design Program, a program specifically created by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Center for International Trade Expositions and Mission (CITEM) in 2013. This was done to nurture the next generation of Filipino designers which I guess, they're doing a great job on this, kudos to them.

Viktoria Laguyo

For Viktoria, she tells she's more inclined and inspired into furniture making. Like this Pirouette Furniture Collection, she made use of rattan, a timeless material. Viktoria wanted to give rattan a modern look and geel like Ballet which uses different techniques.

From over 140 aspiring designers, the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), the export promotions arm of the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), introduces its 14 finalists in the Red Box Design Talents, a platform to discover and nurture young designers that aims to produce breakthrough Philippine design talents by 2017.

Viktoria Laguyo emerged as one of the finalists under the Furniture and Home Accent sectors along with other artists Mariel Lazo, Edward Sibunga, Kristel Blancas, Diana Ramirez, and Jim Torres.

Jim Torres

Industria Home Vico Design & Manufacturing Corp. taps Jim Torres, a young Filipino designer for its Peacock chair entry in Manila FAME. Jim chooses metal to demonstrate the design values of the original Peacock Chair, including its intricate details, dramatic upper tail called coverts, and distinct hourglass base.

Young Jewelry Designer, Micki Olagu

This industrial design graduate of the University of the Philippines Diliman has long been in love with jewelry design. With a mother who is a jeweler, she was exposed to the craft at a young age.

“Designing jewelry allows me to use my education to make beautiful, lasting pieces that can be worn for generations,” she said.

These young and new breed of Filipino designers bring such pride and glory to our country giving the real meaning of Filipino ingenuity at its finest.

Visit their exhibit along with other young designers' artworks at the Interior Zone in SM City North Edsa in Quezon City until March 4, 2017.

What is Japanese Encephalitis and how can we prevent it?

Have you ever heard of the mosquito-borne disease, Japanese Encephalitis (JE)? I have been invited to attend a press briefing/seminars about this disease. And I was quite surprised upon learning that this has actually propagated our country since 1982 in Nueva Ecija.

Since then, it has called the attention of the government and health organizations in our country owing them to push through with the program to put a halt on the spread of JE. It has been known that there are approximately over 3M people were at risk by JE in Southeast Asia and Western Pacific regions. The WHO (World Health Organization) is getting even more concerned about creating measures on how to prevent this disease.

If you want to know more about JE and how to prevent it? Read on...

Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a leading cause of viral encephalitis in Asia.1  Transmitted by the mosquito vector Culex tritaeniorhynchus, the virus can cause inflammation of the brain, leading to high fever, headache, fatigue, vomitiheconfusion, and in severe cases, seizures, spastic paralysis, and coma.  It could also mimic a stroke, as was the case reported in Davao during the second half of 2016.2 There is no specific treatment for this disease.  JE is fatal in 20 to 30% of cases and among those who survive, 30 to 50% suffer from permanent disabilities.

Reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) have estimated that there are currently 3 billion people at risk for JE, living in JE-prone areas, including 24 countries in the Southeast Asia and Western Pacific regions.1  JE usually occurs in rural and agricultural areas, however, an epidemiologic study conducted by Dr. Anna Lena Lopez of the National Institute of Health (NIH) published in 2015, showed that the virus circulates in all regions of the Philippines, including urban areas like Metro Manila, constituting a significant public health burden.4  The study showed that although majority of cases occur in children younger than 15 years of age, adults remain at risk, with 15% of cases occurring in individuals older than 18 years.  In tropical areas, disease can occur year-round. Data from the Department of Health (DOH) Epidemiology Bureau surveillance system revealed that for 2016, among 875 acute meningitis-encephalitis suspected cases reported as of August 2016, 119 (14%) were laboratory-confirmed for JE.

As part of the government’s strategy to reduce mosquito-borne diseases, the 4S program was implemented several years back. 4S stands for: Search and destroy mosquito breeding places, use Self-protection measures, Seek early consultation for fever lasting more than 2 days, and Say yes to fogging when there is an impending outbreak.  However, mosquito-borne diseases are still on the rise.  According to the WHO, the most effective way of reducing disease burden is vaccination against the illness.6  The WHO cites that there is clear evidence demonstrating the impact JE vaccination has on disease burden in a population. Hence, the WHO has recommended that JE vaccination be integrated into national immunization schedules in all areas where JE is recognized as a public health problem.

The WHO Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety (GACVS) has reviewed data on the different types of JE vaccines (inactivated and live attenuated vaccines) and has found them to have acceptable safety profiles. Local scientific bodies, including the Philippine Pediatric Society (PPS) and Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines (PIDSP), have recommended that JE vaccination be given as a single primary dose for those 9 months old and above.  For individuals less than 18 years of age, this should be followed by a booster dose 1 to 2 years after.  Other preventive strategies for disease control include bed nets, repellents, long-sleeved clothes, coils, vaporizers and mosquito control measures.

About the Vaccine
The JE-chimeric vaccine, a live attenuated recombinant vaccine, was first licensed in the Philippines in 2013.  The vaccine is produced by Vero cell culture, a cell culture technology recommended by WHO.  It is the only JE vaccine available locally and is approved for use for individuals 9 months old and above, with high immunogenicity rates.

Click here to watch the video and know the history and status of JE here and outside our country.
