Up Close and Personal with Mayor Guia Gomez and more stories about her son Sen. JV Ejercito

San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez

It was my very first time to see personally and be this close with the beauteous Mayor of San Juan City, Ms. Guia Gomez. In her age, turning 76, this coming April 20, her looks doesn't define it. She really looks so much younger and her aura is so light, positive and vibrant.

The first thing I noticed about her was that she was so open about herself and share fondest memories of herself, her family and son, current Senator JV Ejercito. She happily admitted that she loves pastries and sweets. Her love for food and her passion for cooking had really something to do with Sen. JV's appetite. She shares that her son, really loves her special Bacalo, which she only cooks once a year, during Holy Week. Aside from that, Sen. JV also adores her Bulalo (Visayan version), Adobo. Callos and Relyenong Bangus (also my fave too!).

When asked about her daily routine, she comes early in the morning to her office in San Juam City Hall and she also shared that she was never late and very punctual. During night time, she's fond of watching movies and trying to avoid tv series that could be addictive and make her get hooked to it (she has a point actually). Right now, she watches "Asia's Got Talent," which she finds very entertaining.

Maybe you are also wondering what could be her beauty secret after all these years? Well, she just simply replied, "smile." She smiles a lot according to her and that keeps her looks still radiant she said, smiling defies gravity so, instead of frowning, do smile always and that really helps..... A lot! :) No wonder President/Mayor Erap Estrada was smitten by her charm.

Being San Juan City's primary mother, how could she manage to still have time for her family? Mayora gladly shared that every Sunday, everyone in her family is required or obligated to be in their home in San Juan. All 25 of them, including her grandchildren, she also has an adapted son named Joey who is married to a doctor (according to Mayora), they all dine in together and they do talk a lot everything except for politics and religion, she said. And she also specifically prohibits gadgets or using any of those during dinner time.

Talking about her grandchildren, as a "lola" (grandmom), she doesn't do the spanking or disciplinary matters, she said, being a grandmom, is a privilege to love and not to punish grandchildren. But she also said that, today, in this modern world, the way of punishing the kids or millennials is never allowing them to use their gadgets. Which is I also agree with that, it is a millennial problem, after all. :)

Growing up, the young Senator JV was really a shy boy, she shared. She remembers that he didn't really had a chance to do "baby talks," but when he was nearing the age of three, he spoke in complete sentence! He was also helpful and loves to mop the floor. He had a lot of friends and okay with his peers.

Thank you Mayor Guia 'til our next bonding!
