WATCH OUT FOR “THE STRANGERS”

Every year, during the Christmas season, we always anticipate the parade of stars, the revolutionary movies, and recognition given by one of the prestigious award-giving bodies that would conclude it all.
I am talking about the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) which is now on its 38th glorious year.
This merry month of December, we could witness a different kind of film filled with suspense, horror, drama, adventure, about family ties and domestic issues. As we enter the world where nothing is ever what it seems... it’s the world of “The Strangers.” It’s Quantum Films and MJM Productions newest venture under the helm of Lawrence Anthony Fajardo, whose recent work as a director include “Posas,” – which won Best Film in the Director’s Showcase division of this year’s Cinemalaya and was also given the same recognition at the Hanoi Film Festival in Vietnam.

The Cast of "The Strangers" during their Grand Presscon

We were always told by our parents that, “Never talk to strangers” or “Beware of the strangers.” And to that effect, the plot of the story began. Putting aside their differences, a family travels out of town on the eve of the fraternal twins’ 18th birthday, namely Pat (Julia Montes) and Max (Enrique Gil). They were accompanied by their parents Roy (Johnny Revilla) and Evelyn (Cherry Pie Picache), their grandfather Pete (Jaime Fabregas) and his temporary caretaker, Paloma (Janice de Belen) and their newly-hired driver Toning (Nico Antonio) reaching a far-flung town of Murcia.

Their long journey has turned into a much unexpected nightmare for all of them. They were being haunted by their guilt and conscience resulting from the incident that their van had accidentally hit an old woman while they were on their way. Filled with fear and shaken, still, they went out of the van to check for the victim but to their surprise, the supposed body of the old woman had vanished.
Their horrifying experience had then begun having reached a small village; they were trapped in a strange place.... full of STRANGERS.

This film also stars JM de Guzman and Enchong Dee who said, “First film naming tatlo (referring to Julia and Enrique), to have a film in the MMFF. Ike-claim ko na ang galing namin dito. Sure ako doon kahit di ko pa napapanood ng buo ‘yung pelikula, kasi alam ko na binigay namin ang lahat ng makakaya namin habang ginagawa namin s’ya.”
