“The Voice of the Philippines” continues to fulfill the dreams of singing talents
Daniel Ombao lands on Team Sarah
Filipinos are not only known for their
innate singing talent, but also for their positive outlook, resilient spirit
and tireless passion. A person with
disability (PWD), a self-confessed former offender, a senator’s daughter, and a
wakeboarder managed to turn chairs at the blind auditions of the second season
of “The Voice of the Philippines” last Sunday, November 2 (November 3, Monday
Australian Daylight Savings Time or [ADST], New Zealand Daylight Savings Time [NZDT],
Guam, and Japan Time) on The Filipino Channel (TFC) worldwide, proving the
Filipino spirit and that nothing can stop them from achieving their dreams.

Kai Honasan singing "Teenage Dream"
In the exciting night two of the Blind
Auditions, PWD Karlo Mojica turned two chairs with his rendition of Freddie
Aguilar’s “Bulag, Pipi, at Bingi” while daughter to a Philippine senator Kai
Honasan turned four chairs with her
ukulele-accompanied rendition of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream.” Both Honasan and Mojica, chose Bamboo Mañalac
to be their coach and now join rocker Tanya Ileto Diaz, who was also a
four-chair turn during last week’s premiere.
Bradley Holmes singing "Long Train Runnin"
Proving that everyone deserves a second chance in life, Bradley Holmes dubbed Rocker-Daddy
who performed the classic rock hit “Long Train Runnin’” by The Doobie Brothers
made coaches Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo, and Apl de ap turn but joined Coach
Apl to be part of his team.
Mark Cando lands on Team Apl
Meanwhile, crooner-balladeer Mark Cando, who
dedicated his version of Brenda Russell’s “Get Here” to host Toni Gonzaga, chose
the Hollywood Filipino-American singer as well.
Joining them in team Apl is the singing policewoman, Janet Cadayona, who
proved that discipline also applies to one’s performance as a singer.
Coach Geronimo also pressed the button for
17-year old wakeboarder Daniel Ombao who gave his captivating rendition of Up
Dharma Down’s “Tadhana.” Team Sarah now has two members including reggae soulful singer and four-chair
turner, Kokoi Baldo during last week’s highly-rated and Twitter-trending
premiere.
Lea Salonga with Katherine dela Cruz
The night two of the blind auditions also
featured 22-year old Katherine dela Cruz, a classically trained singer from
California, U.S.A. who gave her heartfelt performance of the John Legend hit,
“All of Me.” Dela Cruz did not manage to
turn a chair and Salonga showed her dismay in her decision when the
Filipino-American shared that she also played the famous role of Salonga, Kim, in
the Broadway classic, Miss Saigon. Dela
Cruz also impressed all four coaches when she and Salonga both sang “I Still
Believe” from the Broadway hit.
Awestricken Salonga surprised dela Cruz with a personal recommendation
to the producers of Miss Saigon. Dela
Cruz, who was also the regional winner for North America during the 2013 leg of
TFC’s singing competition, TFCkat, cried tears of joy, thanking the show for
making her dream, which includes singing with Salonga, come true and said,
“When a door closes, a window opens.”
Team Lea still stands with one sole member, balladeer Timmy Pavino.

auditions on November 8 and 9, Saturday and Sunday (November 9 and 10, Sunday
