The purest water comes from Pureit by Unilever

Natural water. Flowing water coming from mountains... is it safe? For urban dwellers like us, we are usually accustomed to either drinking tap water from our faucet which had undergone some treatments already or we quench ourselves by the water being delivered to us at home on a regular basis from various water refilling stations and dining outside, we order for bottled mineral water, right?

There are a lot of water borne diseases caused by contaminated water which contains some pathogenic microorganisms like bacteria, protozoa, intestinal parasites and viruses. Sometimes, we can be paranoid by just simply thinking how unsafe our drinking water could get. Fortunately, majority of those water borne diseases are not that fatal. Only those that lack medical attention or have insufficient medical treatment may lead to fatal case.

Crystal clear water coming from the mountain in Busay Falls, Brgy. Malilipot, Albay in Bicol province

Mountain water, how safe is this?

In my recent trip to Bicol region, I've captured nature. I was in awe upon seeing the beauty that nature brings. In one of our adventure trips, in trekking the 7 wondrous falls of Busay located in Brgy. Malilipot in Albay, brought by the excitement and abrupt urge, I braved myself in drinking a little amount of mountain water coming out of this bamboo which was inserted directly from the mountain. After drinking, fear came over me, I had a queer feeling and some doubts of its safety and potability.

Good thing, I was able to survive after that, hehe. Well, that's only one of the stories to tell. What if something happened to me, what if my immune system and body defense mechanism failed. What will happen to me? Thank God and thanks to my immune system which I guess was perfectly working that time hihi. But ooopps! I'm not justifying my actions, huh, you should still be cautious at all times and don't dare to do what I did, it's not a good idea after all. :))

Some of the most common water borne diseases here in the Philippines are Amoebiasis, Hepatitis, Cholera, Typhoid fever, Viral Gastroenteritis among others. My niece, who lives with me, had suffered from Amoebiasis five years ago. For everyone's information, Amoebiasis is caused by protozoa which when water is consumed, the patients will exhibit symptoms like diarrhea, fatigue, flatulence, abdominal discomfort and wight loss. All of those were present in my niece's case, which prompted us to bring her to one of the nearest hospitals from home and was positively diagnosed of that said disease and was confined for three days.

The fear of dehydration was one of the critical reasons that Amoebiasis can be considered a dangerous disease once left untreated. We were so worried and very much alarmed by the condition of my niece who was only one year and a half that time. She may have consumed a contaminated water apart from our knowledge. Realizing how dangerous our drinking water could become, we opted to fully subscribe to the regular deliveries of alkaline water and mineral water from the nearest water station.

I wanna share you again, what I guess is another answer and very great alternative to having a safe, potable and pure drinking water for our family. Unilever Philippines has launched its newest brand, Pureit, the largest selling brand of in-home water purifiers in the world, starting with the Excella, a non-electric water purifier that converts tap water and even untreated water into guaranteed clean and safe drinking water.

Pureit Excella is the only non-electric water purifier that meets the microbiological safety norms criteria of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the regulatory body with the most stringent standards for safe drinking water all over the world.

I guess, this is one of the most helpful, healthy, consumer-friendly domestic inventions ever made! Kudos to Unilever for bringing to the Philippines this amazing in-home water purifier that needs no electricity while at the same time, meeting the stringent germ kill bacteria of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the removal of bacteria, viruses and parasites.

Thanks Unilever Philippines for this!

Unilever Pureit Excella provides the highest standard for safe drinking water without the need for electricity or continuous water supply.

Studies prove that In developing countries, around 80% of diseases are water borne. According to United Nations (UN) estimates, over 884 million people, including 16 million Filipinos, have no access to clean and safe drinking water.

In 2010, UN declared that “access to safe and clean drinking water and sanitation is a human right essential to the full enjoyment of life” and one of the Millennium Development Goals is to halve, by 2015, the proportion of population without sustainable access to safe drinking water.

In response to this global challenge, Unilever set out to provide access to safe and affordable drinking water to millions of people, through in-home water purification. Unilever technical experts across global research centers in the United Kingdom and India worked with technology partners, government bodies, and scientific and public health institutions to develop Pureit - an effective and affordable solution that provides access to safe, clean drinking water.

Today, Pureit helps protect more than 45 million lives, and is the world’s largest selling in-home water purifier brand, creating a global footprint across 13 countries including India, Brazil, Mexico, China, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri-Lanka, Nigeria and Kenya.

Unilever thought of bringing Pureit Excella to the Philippines since The Department of Health reveals that waterborne diseases remain a severe public health concern with about 4,200 deaths and 770,000 cases of illness each year from water borne diseases. According to a Philippine Human Development report, one in every five households in 24 provinces gets water from unsafe and questionable sources.

This explains why most Filipino households do not trust tap water for drinking. Surveys report that more than 50% of urban Filipino households buy expensive drinking water from water refilling stations. Meanwhile, roughly 20% of urban households boil water taken from the tap, an expensive and risky practice.

“Central to Unilever’s mission to make sustainable living commonplace all over the world, we are launching Pureit to provide Filipino families with access to guaranteed clean and safe drinking water, as certified by both international and local health institutions like the Department of Health and the Philippine Public Health Association,” said Brian Duruin, Pureit brand manager.

State-of-the-art purification technology

Pureit Excella turns potentially dangerous tap water into a fountain of health by purifying water twice, giving users complete germ protection.

The first level of purification consists of three simple yet valuable layers of protection where water initially passes through the Germkill Processor that disinfects the water of almost all bacteria, viruses and germs. Next, it passes through the Advanced Microfiber Mesh that filters out precipitates such as visible and invisible dust and dirt particles, as well as metallic impurities. Lastly, the Carbon Polisher removes pesticides, chlorine, and odor from the water, before it goes to the second level of purification.

The second level purification is performed by the Micro-charged Membrane, which further purifies the water by removing any remaining parasites or bacteria—assuring families of protection against diseases. The end product is clear, fresh, and natural-tasting water that’s free from harmful agents.

As a tabletop device, using Pureit Excella also eliminates the hassle of buying expensive water from water refilling stations and the associated risk of contamination through unclean containers or storage rooms.

Why bother to buy Pureit Excella by Unilever?

More reasons why Pureit Excella is better than any other purification methods

With Unilever's Pureit Excella, we now have more peace of mind, most comfortable and satisfied with the water we drink. We don't have any doubts if the water we drink is treated well by the water station and another good thing is that, we get to purify our own water without needing any electricity, no boiling, no any hassle. The safety of our family is now well-assured. We can now freely drink water from our Pureit Excella purifier or even have it as a "baon" for the kids to bring to their school. Being healthy starts at home, and practice prevention dear amazing readers, it is absolutely better than cure!
