Max's Restaurant treats their bloggers to a surprise Gilas Pilipinas Meet and Greet
Gilas Pilipinas 2014 players with Max's Restaurant branch managers doing the #PusoToTheMax sign
It wasn't just an ordinary night for Max's bloggers. First, we were treated with a fine dinner at Max's Restaurant in Glorietta 3. We never even had a hunch about what's gonna happen for the rest of the evening. We were just told to prepare ourselves to be taken to ULTRA then the venue was then later changed to Meralco Gym in Ortigas, Pasig City.
Everyone was so thrilled to find out what's in store for us that evening. A lot of queries were about Max's Meet and Greet for Coco Martin hahaha. Mixed emotions that's what we felt. To make the story short, the bus that will take us to our destination finally arrived!
Me with blogger-friends Gracee, Angelyn and Bedalyn during our trip to Meralco Gym the other night (May 19, 2014)
When we arrived, Sir Bobby Simborio, Max's Corporate Media and PR Manager warmly welcomed us and asked us if we have any idea why we were brought there hehehe. Everyone was clueless until he announced that Max's is the official restaurant of Gilas Pilipinas to Spain! So the reason why we're there was to surprise us to a Meet and Greet with the Gilas Pilipinas 2014 players who were having their basketball practice at the same time at Meralco Gym. So that explained why one of the recorded games of Gilas Pilipinas was being played on the bus' monitor during our trip hahaha ;) We were all surprised, in fairness! I really, really love surprises!!! Thank you Max's Family and to Bright Idea Events and Management.
That's Sir Bobby, he was busy distributing our Gilas Pilipinas shirts outside the gym
For most Filipinos, basketball is a passion. Afterall, it is
still the country’s number one sport and we are fortunate to witness the
Philippines attempt to climb back to the world basketball map.
Slated this year from August 30 to September 14, Spain will
host the 2014 FIBA World Cup for basketball and our country is a participant
after a long absence of 36 years.
For the unfamiliar, we last hosted this
tournament in Manila in 1978, back then it was known as the ABC. (Asian
Basketball Championship)Just participating in this prestigious event is by no means
a small feat. All countries present in the tournament are either champions or
runners-up in their regional qualifiers. Each have work hard to achieve the goal
of entering this elite tournament. For the Philippines, we were runner-ups to eventual champion Iran in the FIBA Asia
Championships.
For the 12 players and team coaches of Gilas, it is an honor
to represent their flag. It is also a proud achievement and a lifelong dream
come true. But for all of us, it may be a chance in a lifetime for us to be
able to witness a Philippine basketball team playing in the world stages again.
A chance to showcase our talent and prove that us Filipinos are at par with the
best in the world.
The very first persona I saw as we entered the gym was Gilas Pilipinas coach, Chot Reyes!
Of course, wouldn't miss the chance to have a picture with the legendary Norman Black, reprising his role as the defensive coordinator for Gilas Pilipinas
For the lineup, here are the players representing the
country, namely; Japeth Aguilar, Jim Alapag, Jeffrey Chan, Gary David, Ranidel
de Ocampo, Marcus Douthit, Junmar Fajardo, Larry Fonacier, Gabriel Norwood,
Marc Pingris, LA Tenorio and Jayson Williams. Head coach is Chot Reyes.
This time, posing with 6'10" tower Junmar Fajardo, #DavidAndGoliath peg hahaha
Such an amazing feeling being flanked by these basketball superstars Jared Dillinger, Gabe Norwood and Beau Belga before the Gilas Pilipinas practice :))
OMG! Larry Fonacier in the house!
with 6'9" Japeth Aguilar, nice smile dude!
Andray Blatche of the NBA Brooklyn Nets is in the process of
acquiring a Philippine Passport. If his documents is done in time, he may be
able to join the team as the naturalized player therefore replacing Douthit.
His addition is a much welcome reinforcement.
So why don't we say "Lumalaban ang Max's kasama ang #GilasPilipinas!"
Win or lose, this is the start of a new direction for the
sport so many Filipinos love. We may not have the height but certainly we have
the skills and talent to compete.
Let us show our full support to Team Gilas Pilipinas.
Go
Philippines, fight, fight, fight!
