Kalokalike: Leveling Up with the ratings of "It's Showtime"

It's Showtime's Kalokalikes 44 Finalists during their press presentation held at Dolphy theater, ABS-CBN compound

The say "Imitation is the highest form of flattery." I guess this is so true for those who are open-minded and entertain the idea that being imitated by other individuals is just fine and doesn't mind being copied; in short, they view it in a very positive perspective.

Isn't it "parody," which is synonymous to copy, duplicate, mockery, xerox, imitate, etc.  is one of the trends in social media today? Oh well, Pinoys have been known to have perfected the craft of imitation (modesty aside). And I commend ABS-CBN's noontime program "It's Showtime" for being humble enough to be an instrument in allowing the public to be aware of the so-called "celebrity wannabes." It is one of the most-talked about portions of the show entitled "Kalokalike" which started last January of this year; had gained wide audience since then and the viewing public became especially more interested with sensational celebrity "kalokalikes" of Coco Martin, Robin Padilla, Manny Pacquiao (the 3 were even featured in Korina Sanchez's 'Rated K'), Kim Chiu, Joey de Leon and Daniel Padilla.

Santie Felix Celso, Coco Martin "Kalokalike"

Learsi Gomez, Julia Montes "Kalokalike" with Coco Martin wannabe during the press presentation

Julius Fernando Villanueva, Robin Padilla "Kalokalike" Hmmm.. I wonder what would Mariel say about this... hehe

Ricky Luzano, Manny Pacquiao "Kalokalike," great resemblance, huh!

He's with Sherylene Castar, Jinkee Pacquiao "Kalokalike," so, what do you have to say about the couple? :))

Charmae Viking, check out her great resemblance with Kim Chiu

Roberto Tobillo, Joey de Leon "Kalokalike" (kalurki lang!)

Czesar Resurreccion, another "Kalokalike" contestant, Daniel Padilla's clone hehe

Even international icons like Adele, Justin Bieber, The Rock and Kobe Bryant didn't get away with Filipino's wit, talent and audacity.

Suzele Justin Lim, Adele "Kalokalike"

Cliff Hogan, Justin Bieber "Kalokalike"

Melvin Manalo, The Rock "Kalokalike"

John Paul Macaraeg, Kobe Bryant "Kalokalike"

Amusingly, three of  "It's Showtime" hosts, Vice Ganda, Jhong Hilario and Teddy Corpuz kalokalikes had also entered the semi-final round.

Jay Failanga, Vice Ganda "Kalokalike" In fairness huh, very close!

Crispin Barja Jr., Jhong Hilario "Kalokalike"

Aljon Cortez, Teddy Corpuz 1 "Kalokalike"

Herminigildo Romeo Jr., Teddy Corpuz 2 "Kalokalike"

And now, "It's Showtime" segment had evolved into "Kalokalike Level Up" while it's also leveling up with the show's ratings, FYI; the semi-finals round had started last May 20, 2013 and will continue to run until May 31, started up with 44 finalists. Grand finals will be held on June 1, so better mark it on your calendars peeps. The grand winner will get to take home a cash prize amounting to PhP300,00 while the first and second runners-up will be going home with PhP200,000 and PhP100,000 respectively. Who do you think would be the Ultimate Kalokalike?

“Kalokalike Level Up” is just one among the many surprises and new segments “It’s Showtime,” the country’s number one noontime show, has in store for its loyal "madlang" people. As Showtime Business Unit Head said, "It's Showtime is the "preferred" noontime show of today." They've given the wannabes a rare chance to have their "moment" and access limelight in their own respective ways, the talent management agency of ABS-CBN had been handling their bookings and win or lose, the contestants will still have something to start up with since they've been signed up for six months with the program.

He's not Rowell Santiago's "Kalokalike," hihi, he is his brother, Showtime Business Unit Head, Mr. Railey "Junjun" Santiago

Entertainment, fun, sportsmanship, camaraderie, selfless vision, gratefulness, fame and amazing memories are the most significant elements being indicated in "Kalokalike." It is not just a plain and ordinary television contest. So, if you have your own bets, go check them out and be updated! I also have mine, but it will remain a secret hihihi :))

Kudos to all the 44 "Kalokalike Level Up" finalists! Thumbs up to you guys!

Stay tuned to “It’s Showtime,” hosted by Anne Curtis, Vice Ganda, Vhong Navarro, Billy Crawford, Karylle, Kuya Kim Atienza, Teddy Corpuz, Jugs Jugueta, Jhong Hilario, Ryan Bang, Coleen Garcia, at Eric ‘Eruption’ Tai, at 12:30 PM and on Saturdays at 12NN on ABS-CBN. Zanjoe Marudo: "The Main Man" of the New Era of Comedy

"The Main Man" himself, Zanjoe Marudo during pocket presscon of "Bromance: My Brother's Romance"

Some tagged him as the "Prince of Comedy," direk Wenn Deramas even described him as the "Adam Sandler" of the Philippines but after witnessing the overwhelming success of his launching movie, "Bromance: My Brother's Romance," at the tills, bagging 50M on its first week and still counting, I wanted to recognize Zanjoe Marudo as "The Main Man" of the new era of comedy. And yes, he deserves and has every right to be labeled and treated that way. To date, this is considered to be Skylight Films' highest grossing film.

I know Z (Zanjoe) is not that comfortable with the titles being tagged to him, like what he said during the movie's pocket presscon held yesterday at the Star Cinema conference room, "Isang pelikula pa lang eh, parang masyado namang mabilis na magkumpara agad sa ibang tao, sa mga malalaking tao. Mahirap 'yung ganun eh, s'yempre sila marami na talagang napatunayan and maraming pinagdaanan. Ayoko naman na hindi magpasalamat sa mga ganung klaseng puri, sa mga ganung klaseng sinasabi kasi dapat maging masaya ako kung ganun 'yung nakikita nila. Ayoko ding ipasok sa ulo ko kasi baka mamaya magka-attitude na 'ko," he humbly said.

After the effective gay portrayal of Zanjoe in Bromance movie, he doesn't mind being typecasted in such roles he said, "Hindi naman, kung ganun ang gusto nila eh di ganun ang ibibigay ko, kung panonoorin ba nila eh, kasi kung di naman, di naman siguro gagawa ng ganung klaseng pelikula (he laughs)." Another proof of his professionalism and versatility was when he was asked to have a quick but funny "butt exposure" in this film, no questions was asked, no but's and if's, he just said to the their A.D. (assistant director), "Kahit ano sabihin mo, gagawin ko dito." Zanjoe even jokingly said, "Lucky charm yata 'yun eh."

Once again, a film that was worth watching would never slip the theory of the "word of mouth." It is just so powerful than any other marketing strategies, once it had sink in to the moviegoers, no one and nothing could stop its "viral" spread, on a positive note huh! No negative reviews or unpleasant criticism about the movie was posted, published, shared, twitted or submitted. And talking about worth watching, Z could never forget this one positive comment he had encountered, he cheerfully shared, "Ang pinakanatamaan ako sa mga nabasa ko, 'yung sinasabi nila na sulit. Kumbaga worth it 'yung bayad, biruin mo maglabas ka ng pera para panoorin lang ako, parang ang sarap-sarap ng dating. Namasahe pa 'yan, kumain pa 'yan. Ngayon ko lang naman nararamdaman 'yun kasi nga ako naman 'yung gumaganap dun sa pelikula."

Zanjoe is also thankful to his "Banana Split" family, for being so supportive, wherein he is a mainstay at this Kapamilya tv sitcom. After Zanjoe's participation at the reality program PBB (Pinoy Big Brother) Celebrity Edition in 2006, he had done the tv sitcom "Aalog-alog" with fellow ex-PBB housemates Keana Reeves (big winner) and John Prats along with Pokwang and another ex-PBB housemate, Jason Gainza. This was followed-up by "Parekoy," in 2009, another Kapamilya tv sitcom wherein the friendship between Zanjoe, John and Jason got even stronger. Then came "Banana Split,"  Zanjoe was the very first male guest of  the all- female cast that includes Anne Curtis, Cristine Reyes, Angelica Panganiban, Valerie Concepcion, Roxanne Guinoo and RR Enriquez and because direk Bobot (Edgar Mortiz) believed in his capabilities, and encouraged him to venture into comedy, he then became one of the show's mainstays together with John and Jason in  Banana Nite and Banana Split Extra Scoop

Zanjoe received a lot of praises and good comments about his stellar performance in Bromance movie. Everyone in the whole cast was given their fair chance and well-fitted spot in the movie. The Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB) writes, "The casting is excellent, Zanjoe Marudo is a revelation, as he essayed both his roles with great versatility. "Bromance: My Brother's Romance" is a good vehicle for him to display his range. This was his best movie-- his performance was commendable and effortless-- and it's the perfect launching for him." Compliments also go to of course, direk Wenn Deramas for his outstanding direction and to his co-writers Ayz De Guzman and Danno Kristopher C. Mariquit.
Another X factor of the film was the cameo roles of the biggest celebrities like Kris Aquino, Bea Alonzo, Vice Ganda, John Lloyd Cruz and Ai-Ai de las Alas, who've been very supportive of their friend and co-actor's launching movie.

Given the opportunity to choose for his next movie, Z would still prefer doing comedy roles. Another thing he shared to us during the pocket presscon was his admiration to the 7 year-old child actress/host Ryzza Mae Dizon, whom he hasn't met yet personally, he admitted. Zanjoe also hopes to do a film like "Jack," a 1996 Robin Williams movie wherein Williams played the role of Jack Powell, a boy who ages four times faster than normal; Z finds the role very challenging. And for those who are asking and anticipating for Bromance's international showing, it was already been confirmed that it will be shown in Guam and they are still working on other areas abroad so watch out for it!

Lastly, what could a Zanjoe Marudo has to say after the successful turnout of his launching film, "Bromance: My Brother's Romance? "So ngayon, pag sinasabi nila na sulit, parang di mo sinayang 'yung pera nila, di'ba, parang lesson din sa 'kin. Simula ngayon, tuwing gagawa ako ng pelikula, bawa't eksenang gagawin ko, iisipin ko, hindi magsisisi 'yung tao, iisipin ko 'yung tao na manonood na at least hindi masayang man lang 'yung pera nila," he exclaimed. Very well said Z, good luck on your next project and may you have a blooming career and lovelife at the same time. Congrats!

SM Aura at the BGC is Now OPEN!

SM AURA located at McKinley Parkway and C5 Road cor. 26th St., Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City

SM Aura Premier, located at the edge of Bonifacio Global City, is finally opening its doors to the public this Friday.

The curved superstructure built by the Miami-based Arquitectonica and the Philippines’ own WV Coscolluela & Associates, marks a first for the SM Group which, for this project, has taken an out-of-the-box approach – creating an innovative recreational and leisure space complementary to BGC’s fast-changing landscape.

With a mall, an office tower, a convention center, a premier trade hall, and other features that make up a civic center for the city of Taguig, plus a trade and investment forum,  Aura fosters lively activity with its wide-ranging facilities designed for the convenience of its patrons.

SM Aura, a breathtaking combination of indoor and outdoor activity, keeps a strong focus on design and sustainability, offering a complete experience to upscale residential and office tenants. It is confident about getting a Gold LEED certification from the US Green Building Council – the first commercial center in the country to do so.

At the top of Aura is SkyPark, an expansive and lush green space for lunch break retreats, al fresco dining and leisurely walks.

Aura’s seven floors of retail space include apparel brands such as Uniqlo, Forever 21, as well as retail and dining space. Setting up shop for the first time in the Philippines are Stefanel, Paul Boulangerie, the Food Hall by Todd English, and Asia’s first NBA Café. Anchors SM Department Store and SM Supermarket have also leveled up their design and merchandise offerings for the thrilling new space.

The SM Group is also stepping up its game for recreation. Not only does Aura carry four new digital cinemas and an IMAX Theater, its strong focus on becoming a great place for friends and family has also paved the way for a modern chapel named after Filipino saint Pedro Calungsod as well as the Samsung Hall, a dome designed for events, exhibits and performances.

From morning coffee to happy hour, from every day to holidays, Aura promises to be a center of convenience with a total pleasure experience that is both light and fulfilling.

Getting there, however, is particularly difficult. At the edge of the BGC lays a long unpaved portion of McKinley Parkway, incidentally right on Aura’s doorstep. A barricade wards off pedestrians on their way to Aura. It’s a pity since Aura is an exciting space suited to the lifestyle of those who reside and frequent BGC. Otherwise, getting there should be easy.

But why isn’t it? Who’s afraid of Aura?

YENG CONSTANTINO: First Filipino and Asian Ambassadress at the Academy of Rock

Academy of Rock Amabassadress, Yeng Constantino

The voice behind the hit songs, "Hawak Kamay" and "Salamat," had really gone a long, long way...
Another Filipino's pride and gem, Philippines Rock Princess, Yeng Constantino is the first Filipino and Asian Ambassadress at the Academy of Rock.

It took only less than a year for singer/songwriter/musician Yeng Constantino to achieve one of her greatest dreams, to be an international star and at the same time take part in educating and raising the musicality of youth. For a refresher, Yeng performed last year, June 22, 2012 together with Raymond Marasigan of Sandwich, at the grand launch of Academy of Rock Philippines branch located at the Powerplant Mall, Makati City. Owing to her live and astounding performance of her song, "Salamat," right after the show, the people behind the school (Jeremy Ward of Rockschool UK, Charl4es Lim and PriscillaTeo of Academy of Rock in Singapore) decided to include her song, "Salamat," in AOR's syllabus and gave her an Honorary Licentiate Diploma. Yeng is the 7th person to be given this award amongartists from all over the world for being a top notch performer and musician.

And to receive her award, she went to AOR Singapore and performed but due to a technical glitch, it prompted her to perform "Salamat" live without any hesitation, I believe that is one of Yeng's valuable and distinct characters that makes her stand out and that also sets her to where she is right now. Guess what happened next? For the second time, she had all the management of the school's approval and were all very impressed, thus, she is now the official Academy of Rock's Ambassadress as she signed her contract at the AOR school at the Powerplant Mall, Rockwell, Makati City just recently.

Yeng Constantino happily signing the contract with AOR people and Star Magic's Mr. Johnny Manahan and from Cornerstone TMC, Mr. Erickson Raymundo

Wacky!!! :D

After the contract signing, the very amiable Yeng answered all the questions being thrown to her. She even candidly admitted having a "crush" on celebrity heartthrob Enchong Dee, who got to play her partner in her music video, "Chinito." What's so special about Enchong? 'Gwapo s'ya, macho tapos mabait, tapos nung music video shoot namin 'di s'ya naiinip, parang chill lang s'ya. Kinikilig ako sa kanya, nakakatuwa s'ya, Yeng openly said.

The very bubbly Yeng cared to pose on my cam, during the Q & A

Another great news for all Yengsters and all her avid fans, supporters and followers! Yeng Constantino and Bamboo will be having a major concert at the Araneta Coliseum this coming August. According to her, expect big surprises and great show for everyone.

Yeng was showing her very precious necklace given to her as a gift by the AOR management

Yeng's necklace with studded cross pendant.

Here's Academy of Rock's newest ambassadress and another Pinoy pride, Yeng Constantino's closing message to everyone: "Sa mga sumusuporta po sa'kin, maraming-maraming salamat po sa pagmamahal ninyo, at unti-unti na pong natutupad 'yung mga pangarap na bumubuo po sa aking puso. Sana po abangan ninyo 'yung mga mangyayari sa'kin, at suportahan n'yo po 'yung mga susunod kong proyekto, God bless you all! Thank You!"

Best of luck and God bless you too, Yenggay! Congratulations! We love you!!!

That's me, with Yeng! :)) Love this!

Yeng with Academy of Rock Manila peeps!
